Day 104 - Koh Phangan - Koh Samui
Up early this morning (well 9am) we get packed up and go for some breakfast in the restaurant before we have to check out. As we're having breakfast a few of the guys that are staying in one of the other bungalows start playing volley ball on the beach just in front of the restaurant, me and Si joked about how funny it would be if one of the dogs wanted to join in and right on que Rex came running over all excited wanting the ball.
The guys looked a bit nervous throwing the ball back and forth as Rex was following it where ever it went, at one point Rex ran into the guy that had the ball as he was throwing it and got hit by the ball ... the guy looked like he'd just filled his pants and spent the next 5 minutes apologising to the dog :)
I think their nerves got the better of them cause they soon stopped playing and Rex sat outside looking all sad so I went out to cheer him up :)
After breakfast we checked out, said our goodbyes to the owners and dogs and headed up to the main road to flag a taxi down, luckily there was one driving past just as we reached the main road so we were soon on our way to Thong Sala where we need to get the ferry back to Koh Samui.
We were a couple of hours early for the ferry so we dumped our bags in the ferry office and went for a wander around Thong Sala to do a bit of tat shopping and to get some snacks for the ferry. We went into a bar just opposite the pier for some lunch and a few drinks and then to kill some more time before the ferry went to another bar just up the road. They had a free pool table so we had a go on that, we both got down to the black but unfortunately Si won :( It was time to leave after the game so we will have to have a re-match some other time.
We collected our bags and went and got on the ferry, this is the last stop before Koh Samui so the ferry was very full and we had to sit upstairs on the top deck which is outside. It wasnt too bad cause it wasnt raining or anything but when the ferry got going the wind soon picked up and even Si's hair was knotty afterwards!
Off the ferry and we're immediately shown to a mini bus that will be taking us to our hotel we were both surprised at how well run everything was given some of the reviews and stuff that you read online but everything went smoothly. We checked into our hotel and the room is very cool, lots of bright paintings everywhere and random little animals dotted around very different to anywhere else we have stayed.
It was starting to go dark now and time to get some tea so we went for a walk down the strip to find somewhere to eat. Its clear from the prices that we are in a more touristy area than last time in Koh Samui and its very much like the strip anywhere else, lots of people standing outside asking you to come in etc. Some of them just ask you and then when you say no leave it at that but then there are the over the top ones that try to grab your arm as your walking past to shake your hand ... Si got quite annoyed by one of them and kept his hands firmly in his pocket!
After much walking we found a little restaurant that had a decent offer on so we jumped in their for our grub. On the way back we walked on the other side of the road where there arent as many bars so we wouldn't get stopped every 2 minutes and popped into the local shop for some drinks to take back to the room.
Back at the room we watched a few programs, had our drinks and some snacks before calling it a night.
