Day 105 - Koh Samui
Well I'm getting my teeth whitened today! We google maps the place i'm booked in with and its only a 10 minute walk from where we're staying.
We grab some breakfast and begin our walk up to the main road, according to google we should be able to see the place on the left hand side as soon as we reach the main road as its right next to a big tesco. We reach the main road and no tesco or dentist in sight?? Still having faith in google we walk left down the road but after about 10 minutes realise there is still no tesco or dentist in sight so we give in and jump in a local Songathew.
Luckily the driver knows where the tesco is that we want and turns out we were walking in the wrong direction up the main road and it was quite a drive so google lied to us! Cant really expect perfection though considering the roads have only been there about 5 years.
Anyway we get in the dentist, Si gets himself comfy on the coach at reception equipped with the iphone to play on and i'm shown upstairs to the dentist room. Sat in the dentist chair I was sooooo nervous, my heart was going a mile a minute (cant really blame me given my recent experience with dentists though) but the team were all lovely, very professional and just got right to work, playing some soothing music in the back ground.
About an hour or so later the treatment was finished, I went and got Si and we headed back to the hotel in one of the metered taxis (you know the ones that dont actually use a meter) as by this point it was throwing it down and since it was glorious sunshine when we left this morning we didnt think to bring the brolly!
I showed Si my teeth and he said they were noticibly whiter but I still think they could be whiter :)
I was told I wasn't allowed to have anything that would stain my teeth (coffee, coke, fruit etc) for the rest of the day and to wait an hour before I ate anything. We killed a bit of time in the room waiting for the rain to pass and did a bit a googling on what people recommend you can eat and what you should definately avoid after having your teeth whitened. The answers were all pretty much the same, eat white food, nothing like coffee for 48 hours and if you cant have just white food make sure you brush your teeth asap.
So we headed out for tea and I planned on ordering something as white as I could get without just ordering bread so opted for the Pad Thai which Si has become so fond of. Its the only Pad Thai we've seen come with an orange sauce on it! I was so nervous eating it thinking its going to stain my teeth orange but Si is right about the dish it is very nice. Needless to say we went straight back to the room so I could brush my teeth ... they were still white so panic over!
Si still had some beers left from the other night so he indulged in those while I stayed on my bottle of water being a good girl. I was expecting the sensitivity to be really bad but I only felt a bit towards the end of the night after eating and drinking etc, all in all very glad I had it done, feel silly how nervous I was getting myself before hand and only paid a fraction of what they charge for it in the UK :)
