Day 96 - Koh Samui
Another lie in this morning but we unfortunately awake to lots of cloud this morning, the aussie couple are checking out and we are now the only ones staying in the hotel. We grab some breakfast and decide that now is a good time to plan what we are doing after Koh Phangan so more research begins. The 2 islands that we have in mind are Koh Tao which is the next one over from Koh Phangan, and Koh Samet which is just off the coast near Bangkok.
After much research its clear that accomodation on both of the islands is out of our budget so we decide to come back to Koh Samui and stay on one of the other beaches. We find a nice hotel on Chaweng beach which is the lively part of the island and even though it is just off the main beach it has security guards and and safes in the room so our stuff should be safe enough.
Now that we know what dates we're going where we start looking at train cost etc to get from Surat Thani to Bangkok and where to book them also which is the best ferry to get to and from Phangan in a few days.
We decide to have a break from all of the research and have a walk up to the main road for a spot of lunch/tea at one of the restaurants just off of the beach. Si decided to order a coconut juice and they literally cracked a hole in the top of a coconut, put a straw in and gave it to him ,,, at least it was fresh! WE're starting to wonder if he'll ever just order a normal drink on this holiday that comes in a glass and he doesnt have to eat with a spoon!
On the way back to the hotel we stopped off at the local shop to get some snacks and some drinks. Si gets a variety of the local beers and I opt for different flavoured wine coolers. We bought loads from the shop (mainly alcohol) and it ended up only costing us about £4 bargain!
Back at the hotel and its raining again :( we crack open the beers and decide to watch the other guys (brilliant film). There was a baby lizard on the wall which ran around the window for a while and then disappeared ... we think it might have gone in Si's bag :) After the film I looked over at the door and noticed something in the corner of the room. I went for a closer inspection and got quite a shock when I realised it was a frog as it started hopping towards me! We took a few pics of it and I told Si that he wasn't allowed to hurt it and we just had to let it go back out under the door in its own time. Si got his laser pen and started shining it on the wall next to the frog and it kept trying to eat it thinking it was a fly or something it was so funny. It stayed in the room for a couple of hours, ate a few flies and and then went back under the door and into the rain.
Just as the frog left we noticed a GIANT cockroach in the corner near my bag, Si wacked it with my trainer and then stood on the trainer to make sure it was dead ... it wasn't though we later found it on the other side of the room so he made extra sure he got it this time!
Not wanting any more surprises we stuffed towels under the front door and the bathroom door hoping that it would stop any more creepy crawlies from coming in ... we were wrong! We carried on watching some programs and looked up after a while and there was just a worm in the middle of the room, no idea how it got in though! Si opened the door to throw it out and the frog was still sat there looking at him :) there was also a lizard on the wall watching him throw the worm out (I said he should have let the lizard and the frog in).
The rain was really coming down now and we even heard thunder that started to shake the windows (no wonder the frog didn't want to be outside)
We inspected the room and made sure that there were no more insects that needed throwing out before calling it a night.
