Started off this morning at 9 am to get to the geyser at Wai-O-Tapu (Sacred Waters). The geyser is activated just after 10:15 am every morning by sticking a sulphate down its chimney. The result is a bubbling up until a final spurt and water and steam cascade out. We watched and took photos before heading back to the van and back to the visitors centre. Spent $50 in the shop and then went on a 30 min wander around the reserve looking at all the different pools and craters etc. Again photos on camera as they look better. Difference between 2mpix and 15mpix. Just having last min cig before heading down to Hastings. Stopped about 10 mins north of Taupo at the Lava Glass studio. Some gorgeous pieces of art and the glass was beautiful. Maybe looking online once we get home. Bought mum a paperweight for her birthday pressie. It's nicely wrapped up for the journey home. It's not a solid piece of glass. It's been blown and layered with a bung of glass in the bottom. Got to campsite just after 4 after we finally found some fuel. No petrol station after Taupo for over 140km. Got down to a quarter after some fuel saving driving ie coasting down hills, not great in the rain but hey ho! We were going to stay for two nights in Hastings but this Top 10 is not worth it. I think dad said it was $54 (including 10% discount) a night. It's then $1 for 6 mins in the shower. If we want to wash clothes and we do, it's $4 and the dryer is $4. If the showers were free I think we would've stayed an extra night. No idea where we are going tomorrow other than the town in the morning. It's either Herbertsville, Castlepoint or Palmerston North. See what happens.
