Day 55: 24/02/13
Today I wanted to do some sightseeing. I made my way down the steps at the back of the house towards the river and I walked straight into a cobweb and got it all over my face and mouth. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted the offending spider who wa massive and right beside my head! So I had to try to disentangle myself from it! Somehow it hasn't completely broken and I had to go under it to make sure I didn't get more of it on me! If anyone was watching me it would have looked like I stopped dead in my tracks and started doing some kind of weird karate moves in mid-air! I spent the whole day feeling itchy after it anyway so I thought Mr Spider deserved the picture on today's blog. If you can't see him, look closer- he's massive!! Just typing this is making my all itchy again!
Anyway, I had looked up things to do in the city and it said there was a few concert on Sunday mornings in the Customs house. So I headed there first, but there was a wedding fair on there today instead!
I walked around Eagle St pier then. I had only ever walked along the river bank but there are lots of restaurants and cafes there too and there was a market there aswell.
I was only a few minutes away from St Stephens church then, where I've gone to Mass a few times, so I went in for midday Mass. They really drag it out over here- lots of singing and parading up and down for the entrance and readings and things.
I went into the centre then, around Queen street and made my way to Anzac square which is in remembrance of all the soldiers from Australia and New Zealand that have fought in wars. From there I walked along Ann St to St Johns Cathedral which is supposed to famous for its architecture or something. It looked nice but I know nothing about architecture!
I went to Chinatown then. I'd never been there before. It's just a few streets really but there's loads of Chinese restaurants and shops. That's right beside Fortitude Valley so I walked along Brunswick street there which had a market with not much in it! I had only been to the Valley at night time before as there is a strip of bars and restaurants there.
From there I walked along the Story bridge back to Kangaroo point. There are cliffs in Kangaroo point where people do rock climbing and I spent ages watching them to see if they would get to the top- they didn't while I was there anyway!
I passed out the house and decided to go to Southbank to get some food. That was a bad idea because while I was there it started lashing rain and I had to walk back soaked wet! I also went a longer way round to avoid Mr Spider!
Most of the places I had been to today I had seen already but I had never taken any photos of them. So I took lots today! I've only one other weekend in Brisbane now so I've a few more things I want to see.
I spent most of the evening uploading the photos onto the computer and putting them on the blog. I also put up photos of the rugby match. On the previous blog lorglynnoz I put up photos of the house here and Christmas. So that's something for ye to look at! I still have photos to add to the South America one!
Mam rang for a few minutes then and her microphone was back working again. They were in a rush though to go to a funeral so couldn't chat for long. I had no news anyway- it's all here! I rang She'll but she was umpiring at a football match- good job there wasn't any commotion in the square when I rang!
The humidity must be really bad at the moment- the sweat was out through me all day and still is! Walking over the bridge today my arms were literally soaking wet with sweat- not a good look! I don't think my arms have ever sweated before!!
