Day 54: 23/2/12
I got up early enough this morning and went for a walk around the River- along the cliffs at kangaroo point, over the Story bridge, along the pier, through the botanical gardens and over the Goodwill bridge. It's a long enough walk- 7km to be precise! It's a nice walk though- lots of water and boats to look at!
I dossed around for the afternoon. I spent some time on the computer, tidied up a bit, washed off all the sweat from walking in this humidity!
In the evening I met Sean and Mike at Suncorp Stadium and we watched Queensland Reds play New South Wales Warratahs. Its the equivalent of Munster and Leinster playing in the Heineken cup. It was rugby union- the rugby we have in Ireland. It was good enough. I think the stadium holds about 55,000 people and there were 35,000 there- all supporting the Reds! There weren't 100 blue people to be seen! Even when the teams were coming out they asked for a silent welcome for the Warratahs and there was a picture up of a Red player saying Shhh and there wasn't a sound when they came out. Not great sportsmanship! There was a guy with a microphone getting people chanting and cheering for the Reds which happened on and off throughout the game- especially when the Warratahs were close to scoring! The Reds scored two tries early on so there wasn't much of a competition in it in the first half. Warratahs came back and levelled in the 2nd half but Reds got another try and won 25-17. It was an okay game but it just never seemed to take off. There was a lot of roaring and heckling going on around us aswell- shouting at the players. The guys behind us seemed to think they were comedians!
There were free buses operating from the stadium so I got a bus back to the house. I tried to Skype home but there's a problem with the microphone on Mams computer or something so we had to talk on the phone again while looking at the picture on Skype! I was talking to Mary and Tom for a few minutes aswell while we tested whether the Skype was working or not!
