Day 53: 22/2/13
I got a call this morning for the same school I was in Monday, with the same class. The call came about ten minutes before the only bus there was going to leave, the bus stop is a ten minute walk away and I was in the shower- needless to say I wasn't going to make it! So, I rang a taxi. I had been fairly early on Monday so I left it about 10 minutes later to ring the taxi. Usually the taxi only takes ten minutes to get there, but this one took twenty. I was afraid I would be late then so I asked him to go as quick as he could which he did. There was a lot of traffic so he took a shortcut and then realised he couldn't turn right so had to do a big loop around! On the journey there's loads of traffic lights aswell, which were all red today! So, I was in a bit of a rush!!
I just about made it anyway with about 10 minutes to spare before the bell went! The teacher was there this morning so she had work organised but her daughter was sick or something so she had to go home. She had Matgs worksheets left for them- counting up on number lines to so subtraction sums. They were very confused. Then they had a sheet to fill in about short stories they had done. One of them was the hare and the tortoise- they had to fill in the theme, narrative point of view, antagonist, protagonist, plot orientation, rising action in the plot, climax, falling action, resolution and language used. I don't think secondary school kids in Ireland would be doing that and these were only year 5,6. In fairness a lot of them couldn't do it! But hopefully I helped them a bit anyway, even though I was confused myself!!
They had a technology project in which they will be making a puppet for a puppet show they will put on for preps. Today they just had to try to pick their story and characters. They had a computer session in the library and they had buddy time with a prep class so it was a nice enough day! One guy in the class wouldn't do a thing and he makes out everyone hates him! I'm glad I don't deal with him every day!
I got the bus in and out of town. I spent a while on the Internet- looking up free tourist things in Brisbane; I hope to do some things tomorrow.
There was a concert on in the botanic gardens across the river tonight which I could hear all evening. They had a fireworks display which I could see from the window- that was cool!
