Today I visited 4 school with Vannak and another member of staff.
Like England you can see huge differences in schools. So first the similarities:
1. No glass in the windows just bars and shutters
2. No display boards so posters and work just stuck to walls
3. Good size classrooms - which is good as the largest class I saw was 65 children, sitting three to a desk designed for 2
4. No adult support for the teachers
5. Play areas that are dirt rather than grass or tarmac
Best to the worst seen
1. No rubbish anywhere on site - some rubbish but to be honest I have seen far worse.
2. Children's work displayed with pride - no work and little pride
3. Well maintained site (with community support) - what in England would be closed as unsafe (mind you the children all seemed to be coping and were all engaged in learning)
4. Well organized lessons to well lets say Ofsted would have had a field day.
Good and bad - everyone was welcoming and the children could not have been more delightful.
Arrived back to the POE office, after a pit stop at Vannak's house, to find someone had left me a present of passion fruits in my basket. Just perfect.
