Such a good day. Started with meeting a great man over breakfast. He is the head teacher of an international school in Siem Reap and comes from Scotland but hasn't been back for 16 years. He invited me to visit the school, so while Kathryn is busy in Museums I may just go back to school.
Sheila then arrived and our tourist day started. The tuk tuk driver was great and on the way to the Bamboo train he stopped and showed us different things and told us some of the history of the town.
The Bamboo train is one of those things that you just have to experience. It is insane you sit on a large bamboo tray that is powered by an over grown lawn mower engine. All you have to soften the ride is a cushion and any fat you may have on your posterior. There is only one track, so if you meet another train one has to be lifted off, allow the other to go by and then returned to the track. Great!!
We then went to a village devided by a river and just walked over the suspension bridge that connects the two parts. It was wide enough for bikes, motos and people (just) and very wobbly - fun to walk but ride Sidney, NO!!!. The village pagoda was just lovely and we had it to ourselves, except for a couple of boy monks.
We then went to the Banann Temple. Why oh why do people always build these things at the top of mountains - I would swear we climbed a 1000 steps to get to it. As always it was worth it. There are only 5 towers but again we had it to ourselves and it was just lovely.
Back for lunch at the french cafe, pick up my new skirt and then met up with Al. Battambang is the art centre of Cambodia and for the first time they were holding an art festival which consisted of dance, circus acts (tumbling) singing and much more. Perfect end to a great day.

Chris & Rog I just love to hear about the total lack of health and safety nonsense in Cambodia. It is amazing how things just work and people get on with it. The train sounds uncomfortable but fun. You are certainly seeing this wonderful country and each new expedition makes me want to visit and experience things for myself.
Nancy Sounds fun, and just remember, the exercise is good for you!
