The plane ride to Venice was so quick, it was awesome to get some where where it didn't take 8 hours.
Brendan pointed out the 50 something year old woman next to him was reading a booked called the quickie. That was nice.
Brendan's bag was lost as they left it I'm London. We waited in line for about 40 minutes with some creepy old Italian dude all up in our personal space. At one point I thought I had grown another head because he was so close. There was even a courtesy line painted on the ground where the person next in line is required to stand behind, which I even read in Italian to him, but he was still all jansjdkdkazhd I'm so close to you waahhh. Yeah, I didn't like him very much.
The heat smacked us in the face when we got out of the airport. We caught a water taxi into Venice and had to wait in this small little box, which was the boat pick up spot. The guy looked like and Italian pitbull and his mate who drove the taxi was the Italian Enrique. I bet they have a beautiful friendship.
The first thing we did after dropping off my bag was go find pizza. OMG! It is so gigantic and amazing. Brendan lost his s*** so bad, because food is his thing - especially pizza. We had a small walk around, got some gelato and went back to our hotel room where the guy at the counter looks like that old silver fox in law and order svu.
This morning we woke up at about 6 am to church bells and rubbish boats. One man had this big cart that had 3 wheels like the blue car from Mr. Bean that he hates. I just sat and watched him from our window as he accidentally tipped half of the rubbish bags in the canal, and then he started kicking the ground and saying something Italian. Then a guy he worked with rocked up and he got his ass handed to him. Hahaha. That was funny, even though I had no idea what he was saying.
We went for a walk to try and find San Marco piazza, but just wondered around kind of following signs when we saw them which resulted in a 4 hour lap that just brought us back to the hotel. Venice is amazing though. We later went on a walk to try and find the piazza and were there in about 10 minutes. On our walk though, we saw the worlds largest seagull. Not even kidding this b**** was HUGE! It would've been the size of a dog! I actually yelled when I saw it, because it was just sitting on the ground like I'm a huge m'fer whatevz come at me. I didn't. I was too scared.
Our hotel is right near the Rialto bridge which is so much bigger than I thought. Even the main piazza isn't what I was expecting. And the pigeons here - which are everywhere - just stand there when you run at them. On our walk today there was a massive flock of them just hanging out and following this 80 year old woman with her little shopping cart and she's just cruising along like they're not even there, and they're flying all over here and around her. We had to pass through them and they're flying at us and around us, and I was not coping at all. I lost it and was laughing so much because the woman was so chilled and I couldn't work out how she was just like whatevz yolo while Brendan and I were dodging them and freaking out. Ok mainly I was freaking out haha, but it was so strange.
We went out to a restaurant for lunch and had more pizza. We heard the first Australian accent since we've been here which was exciting.
We also went into a couple of the shops that sell the carnivale masks. They don't let you take photos inside which is so annoying because they are mind blowing!!! The walls are covered in masks that are all different shapes, sizes and colours and there are mannequins dressed up like someone you would see in a Shakespeare play or something.
It is so incredible here. We still haven't been on a gondola yet. We will probably do it tomorrow because it is our last day before we head to Rome!
