We were so pumped to get into Ireland. This was our first city where we didn't have to worry about whether or not people spoke English or attempt a really terrible version of another language. We were also excited for a nation of drinking, because we hang done enough of that over the past two and a half months.
We got off of our flight fairly refreshed as we slept the entire way. We hopped on the bus from the airport and made our way into Dublin. We dumped our bags at our hotel and headed our for some lunch followed by alcohol. At the time the bed seemed amazing, but as it turns out it was a piece of crap which sunk in the middle. The worst four nights sleep of my life. Moving on from the hell mattress, once we had something to eat, we wandered around the town, saw a beggar with a bunny, and found ourselves at the Temple Bar. We had a couple of drinks there and listened to some sick live Irish tunes. After the Temple Bar, we strolled around the bar district a little more and checked it all out before finding a pub to have dinner at. They had a special for €40 for two stone grill steaks and a bottle of wine. We are both suckers for a stone grill so it was on. We walked out of there pretty drunk and stumbled back to our room, and for some reason, watched Irish MasterChef. It was terrible.
We woke up in the morning some what hung over and decided to do some research on tickets for the Ireland vs Australia international series. It was the best fluke ever. We had changed the dates that we would be in Ireland while we were over here, and we just so happened to be there in time to go to the first test. We booked tickets before doing some proper research on how to get to the ground. The game was held in a town called Cavan which is about an hour out of Dublin. We read online that the last bus out of Cavan was at 8:00. That was a bit of an issue as the game started at 7, so we attempted to hire a car. That failed, because neither of us are 25, so we headed to a tourist information centre to find a way home. As it turned out, the latest bus home was at 10pm so we were sweet. After that was sorted, it was time for beef and Guinness pie. We found a pub that served it, but only after 12. We were there at 11, so we sat and drank for an hour until we could order. It was so amazing. Again we walked out a little drunk and headed over the the Jamison factory to keep it going. At the start of the tour, you watch a movie about 10 minutes long and it is so so bad. The rest of the tour is good, but that movie. Wow. So bad. We got a sample at the end of the tour, and I tried Jamison with ginger ale and lime, which was amazing! Brendy was chosen to do a taste test between there different types of whiskey and then got a little certificate at the end which he was very excited about. Due to the slight level of intoxication, we headed back to the room for a little rest before heading back out again. We walked around for a little while and decided to see a movie because we were a five minute walk from the cinema. We went to see Prisoners. Such a good movie.
Our third day in Ireland was game day! We were so excited to go to the game and headed up to Cavan early. The bus ride was different. Brendan had a five year old boy tell him to f off and I had the mum have a go at me for stopping him from putting his feet all over Brendan's jacket by moving it. Needless to say, we arrived in Cavan feeling quite welcome. The town itself was nice. There wasn't a whole heap to do there as it is very small. We had lunch at a pub decorated in Irish and Aussie colours. We walked around the town and checked out a couple of the bands that were playing at the street festival that was going on. We had a couple more hours to kill before we headed to the ground, so we went to a small bar and had a couple of drinks. The bar belonged to the cutest little old Irish man. He was so sweet and loved a chat. We headed to the ground early and met an Irish couple who we hung with for the night. Brendan got a thumbs up from Lewis Jetta before the game which he was pumped about. There would've been about 50 Aussies there max, so when we cheered, there weren't many people to back us up. The game was good, we lost, but we were right up against the fence so I was able to take some sick photos. We were getting smashed in the end, so we said goodbye to our Irish friends and headed to the bus stop about five minutes before the final siren. We were so lucky we left early, because we made it just in time to catch the 9:00 bus.
The next day was our last day in Ireland. We had a pretty relaxed day, as the previous day wrecked us. We slept in, and then decided we were in desperate need of a laundry day. We walked over to the laundry to drop off our clothes and Brendan didn't realize that it wasn't a DIY laundry and just strolled on in which scared the little Asian lady working there. Once she realized the scary bearded man storming into her laundry attempting to take over the washing machine was harmless she found it really funny. We had a few hours before we had to pick up the laundry so we went back to pub we were at the other day to get another beef and Guinness pie, and again we ended up drunk at lunch time. After lunch, we walked down to check out the castle which was pretty cool. We were wrecked and drunk after that so we headed back to our room for a nap until we had to pick up our laundry. She made a really weird noise when we picked up our clothes, probably because they were so gross, but we grabbed the bag of laundry and swagged out the door. We decided to go the movies again on our final night in Dublin and went to see The Escape Plan. I had so much trouble understanding what was going on because Sylvester Stallone has been punched in the head that many time that he can't even speak anymore and Arnie was born that way. After the movie, we went to the restaurant next door for dinner and had the most disgusting tasteless pizza ever. Well it wasn't tasteless if you classify cardboard as a flavour so it can't have been all bad. After that we had to go back to our room as sort out our clothes and pack our bags. The lady that did our laundry folded my socks into pairs. That was nice.
In the morning, we woke up and headed to the airport to catch our final flight before our flight home and headed to Edinburgh.
