When in Rome.
On our first day in Rome off our first busabout trip we decided we were just going to hang out around the campsite and relax. We smashed the pool and had dinner at the restaurant on site which was awesome and super cheap. Nice one camping Roma. Well played. I tired grappa for the first time. First and last. That s*** has got to be 100% petrol. Dayum.
We hit the campsite bar after dinner and I had a busabucket cocktail, which was basically vodka in a bucket, which was the s***. The bar tender provided us with the entertainment, because other than a guy that looked like will.i.am, the bar was empty.
Our second day was interesting. We learnt a lot about Rome and the amount of people that will try to screw you out of money. While walking to the colosseum we were stopped by a guy who was "looking for directions". He told us he was from Versace and his wife was from Sydney (lol) and he was looking for the French embassy and the colosseum? I think? Anyway, he offered us a gift worth "$100,000" - it was a bag - for helping him, after we told him we had no idea where the French embassy was and then he was like great now give me money for petrol. We were like lol no have your s*** bag back, deuces playaaahhhh.
We visited the roman forum and saw Palatine Hill, the home of Augustus and a bunch of other awesome decayed statues and figures. While we were on the bus headed to the colosseum we got a bit of a shock as to how they drive and the way they park .. on the footpath, in the middle of the road and even between carparks in the wrong direction. We even got beeped by a nun! Hahaha yes!
The colosseum was mental! The line was crazy long, but because we bought tickets at the roman forum we got to stroll on by all those suckers. I wish we could've gone down beneath the ground where all the passage ways are to get a real feel of the place, but it was still amazing.
We went into Rome on the third day and attempted to find the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain but failed terribly. We did manage to find the Spanish steps however, which was exciting.
I got into trouble by the crazy toilet lady at the Vittoriano near Piazza Venezia For standing too close to the door. She stands and the entrance and tells you which cubicle is free, which is difficult to tell on your own, making her relevant. All I did was stand where everyone else was and she went off her nut at me in Italian and swept me back with her little broom while she was on her little Italian tangent, which beteedubz, was hilarious.
The crazy kept going as while we were on the bus, some mental black chick came up to the bus stop with her megaphone that played the "Olay, Olay, Olay" song which you usually hear during soccer, I believe. Then she went on a crazy spree about how everyone should leave her country because other people need the money we have spent to enter "her country" and were not really welcome there anyway. She even had the creepy water, hat and scarf guys that are at every stop trying to sell you pointless crap, backing away slowly. Then she played her megaphone jam again and vanished, never to be seen again. Ok crazy lady...
Day four consisted of a walking tour we booked with busabout called Rome(ing) (lol get it? It's a pun.) Papal Rome and the Vatican. Our guide, Justin, was freaking hilarious. He made it interesting and relatable by comparing the history of Rome to the current day. Beibz and Usher even got a mention, which obviously got my attention. Hahaha. He walked us around Rome and showed us a statue of a jizzing nun being penetrated by an angel empowered by gods shaft. Laughed a lot at that one. We also went to the smallest church in all of Rome, and another 2 or 3. I also learnt that there are 900 churches in Rome alone. Them Romans love them some churches. The tour ended in St. Peter's Basilica, which is off its head amazingly gigantic!! Inside is the worlds biggest bronze statue and it looks so tiny because of the size of the building it is inside of. There are letters that are 6 feet tall (Nikki T height. Yay Nikki T) and they look so ridiculously tiny in the Vatican because of the size of the building. It's just amazing. Once we left the basilica we headed over to the Sistine chapel!! I was so excited and it did no let me down! I walked in and barely had my mouth closed, it is that good. You're not allowed to take any photos in there but I got a few sneaky shots because I'm a gangsta. Someone took a photo with the flash on and got escorted away. Amateur.
On our last day in Rome we decided to actually find the Trevi fountain so we could make a wish before we left. We took the shuttle from the campsite with a guy who looked like my dad with a mustache, apparently according to Brendan, and we headed on into town. We went to the pantheon first. It's pretty awesome. There's a massive hole in the domed roof and the building is round. There are paintings and statues placed all around the building and at certain parts of the day, the beam of sunlight hits a different painting or statue depending on the position of the sun. It's actually really clever and badass. We moved along to the Trevi fountain and battled the crowd to make a wish and then walked back to the bus so Mick could drive us back to our cabin. We had dinner at the camp restaurant and took it easy because we had an early morning ahead of us becaaauuussseeee Florence here we come!!! :)
