Both Brendan and I were super pumped to get to Belgium. Brendan for the beer, and for me the chocolate.
We flew into Brussels from Warsaw and once we were there, had to catch the train to Bruges. It only took about 50 minutes, it was super quick. As we were walking from the train station to our hotel it started to rain, so we rocked up looking like drowned rats. Our hotel was located perfectly, smack bang in the centre square and the room was quite decent. We dumped our bags, got changed and then headed just around the corner to a tiny little Belgium bar for beer. We tried a number of the fruit beers which were delicious. Brendan wouldn't stop raving on and on about the black current beer, while I quite enjoyed the raspberry beer. The best past of the beer was that it tasted nothing like beer. We chose the best time to leave the bar in search of good and walked out into the pouring rain to look for somewhere to eat dinner. We ended up going directly across the courtyard and ended up getting drenched again within about 30 seconds. We hit up the cherry beer with dinner which also went off. After dinner the rain had died off a little and we walked down to the supermarket to get on the Belgium chocolate. That was an exciting moment, and then we headed back to our room.
We woke up in the morning and had breakfast in the restaurant area down stairs. It was the best because they had a s*** load of Nutella and the moo cow cheese that I love. So I was getting on board the breakfast train.
After the breakfast train, we headed out into Bruges and ended up going to the 'De Haalve Moon' brewery and doing a tour. We got a free beer at the end of the tour. Brendan drank mine. After the brewery tour, we walked in the rain to the chocolate museum. We bought the chocolate walk tour, without realizing it meant that we had to walk around the town. We walked around in the rain to get our two free samples from two of the chocolatiers in town. We went to an awesome restaurant for lunch and Brendy got the beer tasting paddle he was wanting the entire time. We headed back to the room for a little while to rest, and then headed back out to buy souvenirs. We noticed that something was happening in the main square. It turned out that Belgium was playing Croatia in a World Cup qualifying match, so we put the souvenirs in our room and headed out to join the locals and with the game. We bought some beers and stood in the rain with everyone else. It was so fun! Belgium won 2-1 and once the game was over a street party broke out. In true soccer hooligan fashion two flares went off which was exciting. We ended up joining a conga line in the middle of the square and got on camera. It was the best fun.
In the morning we had breakfast before heading to the pick up point for the busabout bus. We had a couple of hours to kill so we ended up sitting out the front drinking more beer. We tried mango beer that time which was pretty good too. We hadn't been on the busabout loops for a few weeks so it was weird getting back on. We hopped on board and headed for our next stop - Amsterdam!
