Oh Bordeaux.
We began our journey from San Sebastián. It only took us about 40 minutes to cross the Spanish border into France and it was go time. I smashed some breadies (bread sticks for all you white people out there) and enjoyed a wonderful documentary on the coach hosted by John Cleese titled, 'Wine for the confused.' It was different. I learnt that John Cleese is a bit of a piss head and nothing about wine. So it was obviously very educational and did the trick.
When we got into Bordeaux we did what we usually do and ventured out into the town for a look around. We ended up getting lunch at a restaurant, and because we were in Bordeaux, we had to have wine. We hadn't eaten all day and I was exhausted so someone may have gotten a little bit drunk and made up a really cool song about people getting around Bordeaux. Brendan hated my song. It's because he wished he thought of it, so it was a jealous hate. We stumbled back to the room because I really needed a nap, and I woke up 3 hours later with some sort of weird French hang over. Least refreshing nap of all time. Once Brendan finally got me to wake up, completely against my will because I probably would've slept for the rest of the night, we went for another walk. Brendan suggested we go left, from walking out of the hotel, because we went right the last time. We don't listen to Brendan anymore. We ended up somewhere weird outside of Bordeaux and it took us ages to get back. So, once Brendan was banned from being the direction man, we found our way to a shopping centre and went inside to get dinner supplies from the supermarket. It was gigantic! There were three levels to it and one was like a JB HI-FI. They also had Harry Potter in French which Brendan found weird because he's Brendan. I bought probably the greatest thing if all time. A 1kg container of nesquik. I understand the jealously. And future Lisa reading this, once all the nesquik is gone, be jealous of past Lisa who got to enjoy 1kg of French nesquik. We also stocked up on cheese and crackers (far less important than nesquik) and had a cute room picnic for dinner because we're cute and backpacking.
In the morning we woke up and walked down to the wine museum. We were a bit keen and got there before it opened up, so we went to the bakery Paul. There are Paul's everywhere. I think it's a French bakers delight, but there are no cheesymite scrolls. Very sad.
The museum opened up and we were the first to head on in for the day. There was wine tasting of two wines included at the end of the museum so we were pretty keen. It's located in what used to be a massive wine cellar and the museum part was actually pretty cool. There are a lot of wine bottles and they're all really old and dusty which adds to the affect of them being old. Brendan kept touching things and picking everything up and I was convinced he was going to break something, but he proved me wrong which was really nice. There were movies along the way about wine, but it was all in French so we were like, well...yup. I played one and then stopped it because it was in French and these English speaking French people, or French speaking English people walked in from another room to watch it and then got really mad at me and I got angry faced. But I was like whatever I'm too badass for you anyway. We walked around the museum twice, because we felt like it may have been too early to get wine 15 minutes after arriving. We killed some time playing some bongo type drums which made sense in a wine museum and then we were like its wine time. We got to try a white and a red and got a wine history talk by a French Asian lady. We were a bit like yeah just hit us up please, but it was interesting.
After then wine museum, we decided it had to be laundry day. It was very needed, and we were still carrying tomato covered clothes in a plastic bag from tomatina. The laundry took forever because the dryer we shoved our clothes in was s*** and didn't work properly, so we had to use two. The dryers were massive, so I decided to sit in one in the mean time. I didn't want the door closed but Brendy thought it was a great idea. It moved a bit when i moved and I got scared, but then I remembered that I'm a badass who stops French wine movies in wine museums and I wasn't scared anymore, also, I got out so that helped.
We had a pretty chilled out night, because we had a big day on the bus ahead of us. We went to the shopping centre again and stocked up on supplies for the bus ride to Paris. We also bought wine because wine is awesome. We had another room picnic for dinner and made chicken burritos. We're just that good.
In the morning we had some time to kill before getting on the bus at 11:30 so we thought it would be a good idea to post some things home because our bags were getting so heavy. An hour later we walked out of the post office with most of our alcohol and the knives we bought in Madrid, which was annoying, but we managed to get everything else back and hopefully it gets there. That will be nice. Then we waited around for the bus and were so excited when it arrived because our trip to Paris begun!! Bye Bordeaux. You've been lovely.
