The bus ride to San Sebastián consisted of Brendan watching a documentary on San Seb, with me next to him trying to twerk and booty clap, which is actually really difficult. So really it was just your normal bus ride. Leading up to San Seb, every single person I had spoken to had talked it up so much. A lot of people said it was their favourite and that it was bad ass, and they were right! San Seb is amazing!!
We happened to arrive amid the celebration of a rowing competition, and as we know the Spanish love to celebrate anything. We could barely see our hostel through the crowd and after walking past it a couple of times, managed to get checked in. Our place was rad, and probably the best placed we've stayed so far. It was like an apartment, and everyone had their own rooms and shared a proper kitchen and two bathrooms. We went out for a walk around San Sebastián and checked out the beaches. We got a little lost, but managed to make our way back to the busabout drop off point, because the guide said the best burgers in all of Europe were at a restaurant across the road. Big call, especially after Barcelona. Aaaaand, fail. Mine was a strange purple colour. I'm no burger expert, but I'm pretty sure the meat isn't supposed to have a purple hint. But, something good did come from dinner because I finally, for the first time in Spain, got to try kalimotxo! And it did not let me down! It was just as brilliant as I had anticipated, and it goes down so well which is not always a good thing.
We woke up the next day and went for a morning stroll. We ended up down by the beach, and Brendan ended up jumping into the water in his shorts because he couldn't wait to go for a swim. We went back to the hostel so I could change into bathers, and in between we picked up some snacks, fruit, water and bats and balls so we could have a beach day!
We had an awesome time at the beach. We drew a line in the sand so we could play bat tennis, and relocated when the old couple playing next to us was showing us up. The water was so nice and it was great to be on a beach with sand for the first time since being in Europe. There were a lot of old woman with their tops off which was different. And distracting. Especially when they were half way down their stomachs. Brendan ran off and bought a beer and sangria for us, probably because he had to cool down from all the old women hahaha. The beach f'ed us in the a and we both got burnt to s***. Brendy burnt his entire back and chest
:( poor Brendy.
We decided to put the kitchen to good use for dinner, and went to the Spanish aldi and bought what we needed to cook up parmis and salad. It was the best dinner we've had in so long! We were dying for something home cooked and that's most likely the best we are going to get for 3 months. We downed it so fast, it was amazing.
The next day was our final day in San Seb. We didn't do much during the day because the sunburn didn't allow us to move much. We went for a small walk, but we were wrecked so we rested for majority of the day. At 4:30 we planned to meet up with the girl working at the hostel, and she took us on a hike up around San Sebastián. The views were beautiful and she was so cute! She had this big bunch of hair like samara and she was so happy and bouncy, and an absolute machine!! There's Brendy and I struggling and sweating like beasts, and she was just prancing along. She was literally bouncing and jumping up and down all the rocks. She put us to shame. She kept asking if we were ok too, so we must've looked like we were dying. We ended up in a small town, and she put us on a bus back to Sam Sebastián and jogged the entire way back. The bus arrived at the hostel, we went up and got changed and by the time we had walked down the stairs to the bar next door, she was in there chillin and having a drink! We were like wtf!! What a machine!!! We were wrecked after a 6.4km hike, and she just casually jogs back afterwards.
We woke up in the morning dreading carrying our backpacks with the sunburn, and for good reason, it killed us. And now we say adios to Spain, until next time, because we will be back! Back to France we go!
