Monmouth to Clun
Distance 56miles
Elevation 3500 ft
Average speed 11.5mph
A reasonable days cycling mainly through the Shropshire countryside which was fairly easy going for a change. Somewhere there was a signpost to JoG and LE but the distances were not welcome!
LeJoG Blog June 6th: Day 5(Editor's note: guys, you need to cycle quicker to get into the land of wi-fi / phone signal again, we're all waiting for updates!!)Like, how Middle Ages, man! No mobile phone coverage, and the lady running this B&B, like in the middle of pre-history, didn't even know what Wi-Fi is? Someone married to a husband, maybe?Anyway, left the lovely town of Monmouth (stayed in a Wetherspoons hotel!) at 9.15am in beautiful weather and cycled north towards Hereford. Negotiating bigger towns is interesting and requires a lot of concentration, but once back on smaller roads things do return to a pattern. Slog up a hill, lorry or bus comes up behind you and you can sort of imagine the driver thinking"bloody cyclists". Gap in the traffic and they roar past leaving you to inhale diesel fumes. Lovely! The heat made it a bit draining, so we were grateful to pull into Clun at 52 miles, only to realise that our B&B was 4 miles up into the hills in the unpronounceable hamlet of Cefn Eignion. Mind you, it is absolutely idyllic and will be hard to leave in the morning.Only 77 miles tomorrow to the industrial North West of Runcorn. Another major milestone as we reach the top of Wales at 390 miles! If we can find a short cut were going to take it!
