Street to Monmouth
63 miles, total now 260, 700+ to go....
Simon rejoined us after his AirBnB accomodation and we got away just before 9am.
We took to main road through Glastonbury to Wells rather than NCN route that meandered around.
The Old Bristol Road out of Wells proved too steep as we neared the Mendip TV mast and the old boys resorted to walking.
There were lots of other cyclists about but no LeJogers.
After flying down the Mendips we stopped for coffee and Soreen.
We find that after about 2 hours a break is much needed.
On the outskirts of Bristol we followed a cycle path towards Clifton. Arriving at Clifton there was a triathlon in progress. Noticed a couple of GBR trisuits but due to road closures it was a bit chaotic.
Simon left us here to find Templemeads and a train back to London.
We headed out towards Avonmouth on the A4 which was the triathlon route and no traffic.
The route now took us through Avonmouth docks, with little traffic and a reasonable road.
Across the Severn bridge, although not the wow factor of the Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco it was much quieter.
Comming out of Chepstow we were cheered on by Anita Caddy (WRR) and her husband who happened to be on holiday.
How they recognised us we don't know!!
A lovely cycle along the river Usk took us to Monmouth.
A welcome shower, cuppa and food, washed down by a Doombar.
LeJoG Blog June 5th: Day 4(Editor's note: Delayed Sunday submission from our LeJoGgers as I received this today with the preface - 'Can't get internet here in Monmouth! Sent via text message instead'.)Great day of 64 miles in glorious weather. Left a little later from Street, went through/past Wells Cathedral ringing the bells! How did they know we were coming?Interesting navigating through Bristol, as the Bristol Triathlon was on with hundreds of competitors. Roads were closed, including the A4 to Avonmouth which we needed to follow. At one point we were going the right way but on "the wrong side of the RIVER"(ask Lyn!). Quick about turn, join the triathletes, and away we went. They must have thought we were completely barking, doing a Tri with panniers on!A long pull alongside the Severn Estuary followed by the very impressive crossing of the Severn Road Bridge into Wales.
As we pulled up a hill by Chepstow Race Course, a car pulled alongside window down, " come on Steve!" She yelled. It was only Anita Caddy, a Witney Roadrunner and Lyn's boss! Totally random and unexpected, but very welcome!A fantastic ride alongside the River Wye into Monmouth completed the day. 260 miles done. Quite a short day tomorrow, only 53.SH & GLG
