Saturday, our ferry ride to Phuket was pleasant taking about 2 hours, Laura fell asleep and Ben watched Transformers as they were playing it on screen for passengers which is always a bonus. When we arrived we got transferred to our hotel in Phuket Town which didn't take too long, we were anxious the whole journey as to what our accommodation would be like after the last few not being amazing but we were very relieved as it is lovely, we even have a balcony! We set our stuff down and headed out for food however a big big storm came over so we got as far as the 7/11 a few doors down and bought toasties, they are about 40-60p and the staff heat them up for you, we had 2 toasties and packet of crisps each which came to £4 so very happy! We chilled the rest of the evening in our room and skyped home which was so nice!
Sunday we had a big lie in and did not leave the hotel until 12:00. We walked to a restaurant Laura found in the Lonely Planet book called 'Cook' the food is Thai-Italian, Laura had spaghetti with Thai spices which was good but not 100% satisfying as really need a roast dinner! Ben had a chicken Thai green curry pizza which he really liked but the pizzas are never big enough! The portions of food here are a lot smaller than home. We walked to the bus terminal to buy our tickets to take us to Koh Samui in 2 days, on route we found a pet store which was all tiny PUPPIES! Obviously things are different to home here and all the puppies are in cages which Ben doesn't like but you'll be happy to know it was very clean and they had fresh water and the staff were getting them out in turn so they could play in a little pen, the shop stunk of that puppy smell which made us smile. At 16:00 we took out a moped and drove to Patong which is the most popular place to stay in Phuket, it is very touristy and full of Thai women and Lady boys. We walked through all the bars and realised that every one had a game where you challenge your friends to hit a nail in wood, you take it in turns and the last to hit their nail in has to buy the round of drinks, it looked very funny and something we want to play with friends when we get home! We visited the Hard Rock Cafe so Laura could get yet another glass then drove back to Phuket Town before the roads got too dark. Our day was made complete with a 7/11 meal!
Monday we set off at 9:30 to make the most of the moped as it had to be back by 16:00. We had CHEESE ON TOAST for breakfast at a local cafe so it was a good start to the day!! We drove to the Big Buddha which is still currently being constructed but has great views and will be amazing when it's finished. Whilst driving up hill to the buddha there was lots of elephants on the sides of the roads as there are companies there offering elephant trekking, we really wanted to stop to see the babies but knew we would get charged for it. After we drove to Kata beach for a sunbathe and dip in the sea, we didn't stay long as it was soooo hot! Before we had to give the moped back we quickly nipped to the post office so I could post home my 4 Hard Rock Cafe glasses as they are becoming a bit of a liability now! We spent the rest of the day chilling and getting our bags ready as tomorrow we leave for Koh Samui at 7:00am!
