Sunday we had a bit of a lie in then went for breakfast at 9:00 before catching the 10:15 ferry, the ferry ride again was horrendous due to the typhoon...so many people throwing up, you definitely had little chance of standing! Luckily we were on the high speed catamaran so we arrived at Chumphon within 1 hour & 30 minutes. We caught our coach and continued our long journey to Bangkok, it was dark when we arrived so we went straight to our accommodation and to bed.
Monday we decided to wake early to get in line at the immigration office, we arrived around 9:30 and filled in all the required paperwork and photocopied all the required documents to extend our visa, we were finally called forward to submit this at 11:30 and had to patiently wait for them to return our passports, annoyingly the immigration office closes 12:00-13:00 for lunch break and cleaning which added extra waiting time for us however as soon as we went back in at 13:00 we were called to receive our passports back. We decided we would try our chances and see if there were any coaches still running to Sukhothai in the afternoon as we knew the journey is a good few hours, we got a taxi to the Bus station and luckily a coach was leaving at 15:30. The journey took about 7 hours but was one of the best so far as our ticket seemed to include drinking water, cake and a meal! We arrived at Sukhothai at 21:30 and we were really worried our accommodation would be closed at this hour so we wouldn't be able to check-in but the luck seemed to be on our side today, we checked in and went straight to bed!
Tuesday we had a lie in and missed breakfast, we headed out at around 11:00 and hired a moped from the receptionist to explore Sukhothai Historical Park. The historical Park is now World Heritage site, it contains 193 ruins in 70 kilometres of the 13th-14th Sukhothai Kingdom. The park is split into 5 sections so today we visited the North and West sections. Some ruins clearly look ruined temples, palace buildings and buddha figures however other parts just look like a pile of old stones. After we went to a local restaurant for some good cheap Thai grub!
Wednesday we decided we would be polite and wake for breakfast however decided quickly we would have preferred to stay in bed! The egg on toast was nice but the weird sausages they eat out here which make you wonder what meat it is or whether it's meat at all are not good... What can we say, nothing beats British sausages!! Today we decided we would spend the day in the main central part of the historic Park, it is a lot bigger than the other 4 sections and the ruins are more magnificent, we strolled around trying to take arty farty photos... This is definitely a photographers playground. The park hires bikes for about 40p which seemed a lovely idea however as we already hired the moped we decided to make do, it was slightly embarrassing though when people were cycling along in the nice tranquil location then we went driving past on a noisey moped!! We went for some lunch then headed back to our accommodation to pack our bags as tomorrow we leave for Chiang Mai. As the sun started to go down we headed back into the central Park to take some sunset shots then went to the evening food market held on the high street, at one point everyone stood still for what we think must have been the national anthem, even all the cars stopped! We went back to our accommodation for an early night as it's an early start tomorrow.
