Tuesday we were up early for our journey to Koh Samui, we were picked up by taxi and taken to the coach station, our coach took about 6 hours to Don Sak where we caught the ferry across to the island which took about an hour. We were pleased to arrive at a very pleasant hotel in Chaweng and have been upgraded from the 28th to their nicer hotel down the road as they overbooked! We dropped our bags and headed straight out for food and a wonder. We were back in the hotel early as planned to Skype Kate and Max about our plans for Vietnam and have an early night!
Wednesday we had a good lie in and left the hotel at 12:00. We went to an Irish pub for breakfast/lunch and are so happy about their menu... They do Sunday roast!!! After we hit the beach for pure relaxation... And bat and ball. Later we strolled back to our hotel past all the stalls. Laura was finally able to have a bath after nearly 3 months!! We headed out for dinner at 19:00 and went back to the Irish pub as their menu is so appealing to us... We have justified eating English food as we are in Thailand for 2 months!
Thursday we had another lie in and hit the beach at 12:00 again. Later we decided to go for a Thai massage to see what all the fuss was about... What we didn't realise is that it was a hour of pain! We spent the first 10 minutes giggling as they shoved their elbows and knees in our backs, Laura had to look away from Ben to stop laughing, the next time she looked back the woman was stood on his legs!! Ben was not very happy as Laura thinks he just wanted to be tickled to sleep for an hour but Laura thought it was a great experience, probably not to be repeated! We headed back to the hotel for a bit... Laura had another bath, then headed to an Indian for dinner.
Friday we had to leave our hotel at 11 to move to the upgrade hotel, once settled there we had a 7/11 lunch. At 13:00 we hired a moped so we could explore. First stop was the Thai embassy to discuss our visa again as now we are not sure about going to Burma as this is could be an added expense at this stage of our trip, the lady advised that in Bangkok we can pay for an extra stamp in our passports to stay but after discussing this we agreed the price of the stamps would be equivalent to the flights anyway. We drove to the Namuang Waterfall which was quite busy and not an easy path to walk/climb but was very good. After, we drove to Hin Ta & Hin Yai as advised by the Lonley Planet book as there are infamous stone formations shaped like genitalia... This was entertaining and also very touristy which made it funnier as everyone wanted a photo with the penis shaped rock!! We headed back to the hotel and took a dip in the swimming pool which, can you believe, is colder than the sea! Laura had yet another bath, we had a good meal then played a few games of pool back at the hotel.
Saturday we got up earlier to head out on our moped before it was due back. We drove to the Big Buddha and to Wat Plai Laem temple which has a buddha with 18 arms. From this side of the island we could see Koh Phangan. We were back by 13:00 to hand the moped back so headed to the beach for a few hours, after we cooled off by the pool, played pool and got ready for dinner. We headed to the Irish bar again for some good English grub, Laura had Bangers and Mash and Ben had a pie!!
Sunday we had a lie in and heading out at about 11:00 to the beach, there was no cloud coverage so it was super hot, could lie still for about 30 mins before dipping in the sea to cool off, Ben thinks it is the most he has ever sweated!! At 16:00 we went for ROAST DINNER at the Irish bar, so delicious!! After we strolled around the stools, played stump at a bar then went back to the hotel to play pool and have long Skype sessions.
Monday.... Is it really 1st December!? 4 weeks until we see mums and dads, 6 weeks until we see Kate and Max & 10 weeks until we see Michael! We had yet another lie in before heading out into another scorching day! We only manage to sit out for a few hours before getting too hot and very bored.... We are getting very good at bat and ball now though! We headed back to our nice cool pool for a dip before getting ready for dinner, possibly Lauras last bath for a while! We went back to the Indian as we really enjoyed it but ate way too much food and waddled back to the hotel to play pool... Another game we are getting good at! We packed all our stuff as we leave in the morning for Koh Phangan.
