Tuesday we were picked up at 9:30 for the ferry across to Koh Phangan, the ferry took about 45 minutes. When we arrived we caught a cab to our accommodation in Ao Bang Charu, unfortunately we didn't like the room they put us in so we looked around and paid to be upgraded to another, when moving all our stuff it started raining really heavy so we got quite wet! As the weather wasn't really allowing us to venture very far we went to the restaurant on site and had some lunch then just chilled for the rest of the afternoon, Lauras currently reading 'My Sisters Keeper' which Kelly kindly gave to her and Ben got in the pool and made friends with John and Ben from Northforkshire. We freshened up for the evening and met John and Ben for some drinks, we all decided to have a few drinks at our place then go to Had Rinn for a pool party at Coral Bungalows. We were the first people to the pool party which was uncomfortable but the drinks were a lot cheaper there and as more people arrived we invited them to sit with us until there was room for no more! We played a card drinking game with 5 Germans and 2 Swedish until happy hour when we all went to purchase our buckets! We had 'Samsung' buckets which is supposed to be Rum but tasted a lot like Whiskey and it was sooo strong we couldn't even taste the coke or lemonade! We were joined by Josh and Georgia from London and got on with them really well so spent the rest of the evening with them. We got the taxi back to our place at about 2, the roads in and out of Had Rinn are extremely hilly and look impossible for mopeds, the taxis have to go down hill fast so they can get up the other side so it's like a bloody roller coaster!!
Wednesday we agreed to meet Josh and Georgia for a trip around the island on the mopeds. Unfortunately it was very stormy at the bottom of the island so Josh and Georgia didn't want to drive in the heavy rain, especially on the roller coaster hills! The weather wasn't too bad for us so we drove to Than Sadet Koh Phangan National Park to see Phaeng Waterfall, the hike wasn't too long but the path is being reconstructed so was in a poor condition and we were stupid enough to wear flip flops, when we got to the waterfall Ben went for a dip whilst Laura took photos. After, we drove to look for Paradise Waterfall which from the map we thought we could walk to the view point which is on the islands tallest point at 627m, however the track to this was very poor and not safe to drive on with the moped so we headed back and got caught in the storm this time! We tried to escape from the rain when it was at its heaviest so pulled into a shack of a cafe on the side of the road where Ben decided he was brave enough to eat their food, he had what looked like Pork scratchings floating in water but insists it tasted good! In the evening we met back up with John and Ben for drinks and planned to go the a Waterfall party however when we arrived we realised it was around £8 each so decided to head out in Had Rinn instead, we ended up at 'Same Same' bar where we watched a beer pong tournament and got to drink MAGNERS! On the way back to our accommodation we stopped off to see if Josh and Georgia were around which luckily they were, we decided that we would try to hire a car for tomorrow so if it rained it was easier and safer transport.
Thursday we were up early to look for a car, we managed to hire one for £20 for the day so only worked out £5 each. Laura had to drive it from the shop to our accommodation as Ben had the moped still, Lauras first experience of driving an automatic! We picked Josh and Georgia up at about 10:30 then ventured off to find the view point, we did find a view point but don't think it was the right one as we definitely were not on the highest point of the island, after we took Josh and Georgia to the waterfall we went to the day before. We drove to Mae Haad beach which had a natural sand bank creating a beach either side and it was so peaceful at the top on the island, there were tourists but it didn't have a touristy feel to it like the other towns. We drove around stopping at stalls to haggle for some good clothes to wear to the full moon party, after we went to Amsterdam bar for a drink and it had an amazing view of the sun going down, we laughed as we felt it was a better view than the view point we had trekked too! We dropped the car back at 19:00 then spent the evening relaxing at our accommodation with John, Ben and some of their friends.
Friday we had a good lie in followed by a cheap full English! Today is the King's birthday so most locals are wearing Yellow and in very high spirits! We strolled around our town looking at the shops then headed back to chill for the afternoon. We made friends with an Irish couple, Laura and Davey, and invited them over for drinks, at around 23:30 we all headed to the Jungle party and had a pretty good night watching the Thai boxing followed by drunks trying to Box, turns out 90% of the drunks wanting to Box were from Manchester!? We didn't get home until 5:30!!!
Saturday we had to be up by 10:00, meaning we only had 4 hours sleep, as our accommodation wanted us to move from our room to another so we packed all our stuff and headed to reception to find we didn't need to move after all! We decided we would rest and try to nap for the rest of the day as the full moon was tonight however our accommodation had a different idea and started blasting music from 12 right through to the evening, it was so loud our room was vibrating! At 17:00 we met Davy and Laura to head to Makro to buy our own alcohol then after, at sunset, we started getting ready. We were joined by John and Ben and started painting each other with the ilumminose body paint and playing drinking games which attracted our French neighbours and a few others also staying at our accommodation. At 12:00 we caught a taxi to the full moon party and had great fun! We drank many buckets, the boys did fire limbo and a water slide, we danced (the boys dancing seemed to attract gay middle aged men!) and we buried a dog we made friends with in sand and most importantly we made it to sunrise! We didn't get back to our accommodation until 6:30 and had to have a communal bath in the swimming pool to get all the paint off!
Sunday we didn't wake until 16:00! We went for 'breakfast' then spent the rest of the day relaxing and chatting about how much fun we had! We packed our bags as tomorrow we leave for Koh Tao and had an early night!
