Had best ravioli ever last night in lovely old square which just 2 large pieces stuffed with cheese and spinach and covered in a spicy sausage sauce Beautiful walk today in sunshine to Monteriggioni. The approach as in the pic was fab but the place was very small and busy with visitors. However the B&B is fine and had good meal in old trattoria with the typical top drawer restaurantor.

Osso Bucco and Wild Boar was last night’s fare and it was really good. Left in sunshine and pleased to leave the over crowded SG and head for Colle Val D’Elsa. Another 1000 year old fortified town but thankfully not known by tourists. Will take pics tonight. We are in the lower town in cheap b&b which is actually good. The rain stopped at 11am so we left for 14km walk to San Gimignano. Lovely walk through vineyards and the rain never returned. Stopped and had best lasagne we have ever eaten at agriturismo hotel en route. San Gimignano is beautiful on top of the hill but very busy. It is now a UNESCO heritage which is great for the towns business’s but ruins it for every one else. I’m only grumpy as the Oslo Bucco and vino Rossi are starting to play up! Just completed day 1 and 22km walk in sunshine. All went well but as usual last 3km all uphill. Anyway great apt run by Enrico who looks like the young Montalbano. Tomorrow rain is forecast all day so could be a damp trip to San Gimignano. Lively place and had pre prandials at bar central which was offering played of free food as its Easter. Then off to Osteria for beef carpaccio followed by sea bass. It doesn’t get much better than that

Left a rainy Lucca by train to Pisa then train to SAN Miniato. Lovely hillside medieval town. Pic is view from restaurant at back of a butchers shop which was packed. Needless to say we had a steak and Vino Rossi. Staying in an apartment with cracking views and run by super friendly Sonia. She kindly picked us up from the station at bottom of the hill and will take us out of town tomorrow to start the walk.
