Day 28! We headed downtown first thing this morning and stopped at Denny's for breakfast. They usually are really quick with food but this time they were super slow and we had to throw our pancakes down our throats in 5 minutes so we wouldn't be late for our tour! We had a tour of Graceland booked so we headed to Beale Street to get the bus out there. It was a cool 50s style bus with red leather seats and chrome everywhere, which was pretty cool. Graceland itself was awesome, we got an audio guided tour of the mansion, then entrance to Elvis' automobile museum, his private jets and a few more exhibits of his life and career. It was really interesting, I hardly knew anything about Elvis beforehand but definitely learned a lot about him, he was a pretty amazing guy! When we got back downtown we walked along the riverfront, looked in some of the super tacky souvenir shops on Beale street and got an ice cream float in the 'only original shop in Memphis' (whatever that means). We were then a bit stuck on how to spend the rest of our day in Memphis as everything costs money/everything is blues orientated and we're a bit music-ed out after 3 music cities in a row.. So we had heard about the 'famous Peabody ducks' and headed to see what all the fuss was about. We arrived at the hotel 15 minutes before the show and could hardly get a space, there were so many people there. We waited for 5pm to see... 5 ducks walk from a fountain in the lobby to the elevator. It was the most bizarre thing I've ever seen! Apparently it's been a tradition for 80 years that they come down from their house on the roof at 11am and sit in the fountain until 5pm when they go back. It was super weird. We went for dinner after that at B B Kings on Beale street, which was so good! I had BBQ ribs with beans and coleslaw, and it was so tasty. We still had loads of time to kill and nowhere to go so we went and sat in a McDonalds for like an hour and a half - you see some sights in McDonalds! We went back to the motel to pick up our bags and now are getting an overnight bus to Dallas.. Last overnight bus of this trip, thank The Lord!! L x
