Day 5! We left NYC in the morning to get the bus to Seaside Heights (the location of the tv show Jersey Shore). We walked along the boardwalk beside the beach which is kind of a typical seaside resort, lots of bars and carnival games and rides. Julie was SO excited to see the Shore Store, where the cast worked, and we went on a tour of the house they stayed in. I haven't seen the show so didn't mean much to me, but I did expect the house to be big and modern but it's pretty much the opposite. We found a water park just behind the boardwalk so went there for the afternoon, it was so much fun! Catherine and I went on all the rides while Julie was 'mum' and stayed with the bags reading a book because she doesn't like rides! We went back to the motel to get ready and went out to a restaurant on the boardwalk for dinner and then found some of the bars and clubs that are featured in Jersey Shore. Apparently Friday nights aren't that busy here and Saturdays are better so it was pretty quiet in most places. One of the places in the show was called Karma, and so we THOUGHT we'd gone there but turns out it was attached to another bar next door where we are at least 20 years younger than everyone else and the music was horrific. So that was pretty funny! Turns out we're a bit of a novelty here, when we said we were from Scotland the guy in the motel said "we had people from England 2 weeks ago" and "you know that movie Braveheart?" And we met some people who had never met anyone from outside the states before! And absolutely nobody knows where Scotland is on a map/has ever heard of it.. Very bizzare! L x
