It was with reluctance that me and Alice got up at 8.30, but it was made a bit easier by the fact Heather cooked up some hash browns, beans and tomatoes to mop up the alcohol in our stomachs. David had said we could have the day off today which was very welcomed, and so he took me and Alice, Riley, James, Dougal and Braden (Dougal's son) on a walk through the bush at the back of their paddocks to the house shaped like a shoe. David went to ask them if it was OK to have a look round, and before he could get a chance to get Rusty (David's dog) off the property, their bull dog attacked Rusty. David was hitting their dog, and eventually managed to get her off by whacking him with a spade, but it was very scary to watch -it reinforced my fear of dogs! Rusty got a scratch on his stomach, and David had the top of his thumb chopped off- very painful looking.
Although the house didn't particularly look that much like a shoe (but I think that's because they have added bits on when they can afford to do it) it was really cool inside. It was like no other house I've ever been in before, and looked like it wouldn't have been out of place in Hobbiton- it was all ramshackle and higgledy piggledy. Their garden was really nice too.
In the afternoon, once everyone had left, we watched Rio and then Boy- a film about a Maori boy who lives with his grandma, but then his dad comes back to try and find some money he stole and hid in a field. I recognized the scenery as being from the East coast, and it was quite a good cultural insight- I didn't know beforehand that Maoris have to wash their hands after they go into gravesites. I tried a triple spooner (hot chocolate, coffee and sugar) so called because David has it and it needs 3 spoons to make.
