So we left Dunedin and drove north, up the east coast. Coffee stop was in Palmerston, a coffee shop with no cakes. A big disappointment.
Stopping at Shag Point and saw more seals and then drove on to see the Moeraki Boulders, large sphere shaped rocks on the beach.
We had another stop at Omaru, large white Victorian buildings, many turned into Artisan workshops and galleries. We turned inland and camped in Omerama, after passing the dams.
The next day we drove on to see Mt Cook, spectacular views of the snow topped mountain. We stopped at a few ski resort towns - Twizel, Lake Tekapo. We saw the Church of the Good Sheperd, again with spectacular views of the mountains through the church window.
We then decided to drive on to Akaroa and spend our last 2 nights there. A very popular site, lots of locals spending the weekend. A very pretty village, with a French theme as this was where the French settlers first arrived. A beautiful little harbour where we enjoyed fish and chips on the beach with a group of locals jamming.
