We decided that if we wanted to see Mt Egmont this would be the day. When we planned our trip we didn't quite appreciate the roads. This bit may have been done in a better order! However, we had a photo of mum and dad that we thought was at Mt Egmont taken around their engagement in 1950.
We ended up on a road called Forgotten World Highway. A route of twists and turns. As we left Taupo we had really clear views of Mts rutapeka, tongmra and Ngaurukoe. The highest with snow on the top.
We arrived at Stratford, with its streets named after Shakespeare characters. We tried to find this place in the photo. The ladies in the information centre had no idea so we just enjoyed the spectacular views of Mt Egmont with snow on top again. New Zealand's 2nd highest mountain.
We drove back around to National Park via Wanganui, where we are actually stopping later.
So we finally arrived back at National Park, again very clear views of the mountains. Off to explore this morning but unfortunately cloud has covered the tops. Will we get to the Mt Doom?
