So our Campervan is called Frodo and we had a very comfortable first night. John and I sleep on the shelf above the driver's seat and climb up a ladder. Those that know me can imagine the palava every night and morning as I struggle up the ladder. We have a net to stop me falling out!,
We walked around the Kaikaura peninsula and there were stunning views of the coast. The rock formations are awe inspiring - trying not to use amazing all the time. We walked to Point Kean and there were seals basking in the sun. The gigantic seaweed was also fascinating. We walked right round to South Bay where the Whale Watching boats were moored. This leads on to the excitement of today when we went out on a catamaran to view the whales. We had been out at sea for some time and we began to think we were not going to see anything when we saw the spurt of a whale and there was an enormous sperm whale - as big as the boat and it eats a ton a day and it dives between 1000 and 3000 metres. It stays submerged for 40 - 60 minutes. And we saw it!!!!
Then we saw dolphins, jumping around the boat. There could be a picture but we seem to have a lot of photos of sea.
