One of our volunteering duties is to go into the special school for mentally disabled children. I was put in a class with about 8, all had an attention span of about 3 seconds.. I had to teach them basic by showing them how a square block fits a square hole.. And a circle one fits a circular hole etc.. Often having to guide their hands to the correct hole each time. I also taught them numbers up to 10 by guiding their hand over an already drawn out number, although they could barely hold the pencil itself. Quite sad how they're totally dependant on other people to do things, like even taking them to the toilet and making sure they wipe and wash etc! By the end the lads I had been teaching were more interested in climbing over this 6ft 1 lad they had met than learning anything new..
