It's weird to have been looking forward to going to a new country just as much as I was dreading it.. Singapore! A beautiful small country with its crazy central business district, sky scrapers and marina bay... But my god it's bloody expensive!! £1.20 for a bottle of water.. I'm used to paying 30p or less!
Singapore really is a cool city, it's like living in London, just a really hot London! All these fancy hotels, apartments, suited and booted men and some very very fancy cars, Lamborghini's, Aston martins, Porsche, Mercedes and Ferraris bombing about the city, jaw dropped.. I'll just take the sub way!
The view of the city from the view tower at night was breath taking! Amazing how most of the major buildings are lit up at night and how the city seems even more alive at night than in the day!
After the weather forecast had predicted rain and thunderstorms for 3 of the days we were there, I thought it was going to ruin our plans.. Luckily we only had rain for half a day and managed to visit the war memorial in the north of Singapore. The war memorial was dedicated to the allies fallen in WW2 and is actually where my great uncle is buried. It was a very well kept memorial with all the headstones pearly white, looking brand new and the grass and flower decorations around the headstones pristine. The number of headstones was shocking! Row after row which spanned around the main centre monument and around the back.
The only bad part of Singapore is actually our accommodation, we've been in a couple of poor hostels but this one tops it! The room has a horrible damp and dirty smell to it. Were sharing a room with 4/5 Indian men who snore horribly! The hostel itself has a weird vibe to it, with a lot of older people hanging around, mainly Indian and African who stare, smell, shout instead of talk, and eating disgusting loud with their mouth open at breakfast.. At least breakfasts included!
