Once again arriving in a new city.. Hot. Sweaty. And only a ruff idea on how to get to our accommodation.. Well we knew we had to get the number 300 bus from KL central to our accommodation. Yet none of the bus drivers seemed to know where the number 300's were.. So 2 hours later after taking 2 trains to a deserted Train stop.. And catching the number 300 bus, we arrived... A massive yellow house with big black gates, nice widows, well kept front area... And it's not our accommodation.. That's our neighbours. Our accommodation was next door.. A tiny little yellow painted house with a small meshed gate to keep the dogs in.. The accommodation was pretty basic with only fans no ac, outdoor showers and old furniture featured in only fools and horses.. I thought Jordan was going to run away..
Our first day was actually not too bad. We got up and after breakfast did our chores around the hostel, fed the dogs etc. Then Shyam told us we were going to collect a few tortoise to release back into the river systems.. When we arrived at basically the RSPCA we quickly played with a few puppies to get them used to humans.. Fine by me. Then we were taken to the tortoise enclosure when (with no enthusiasm or offers from the girls) I hoped into the sludgy wet enclosure, feet deep in this greeny gunge looking for 2 adults and 6 babies... Well after sweeping up and down about 3 times it turned out there was only 2 adults and 1 baby... Bit of a miscount! We drove them to a slow moving river and released the 3 to the world!!
Day two we went to the local swimming pool and took 'the kids' as we were told they were for a few laps.. 'The kids' were called 'the kids' because they actually had the mental age of kids. They were adults with a mixture of ADHD, down syndrome, autistic and other learning difficulties. We just basically had to get in the water, pace them, swim up and down and high dive them when they got to the end.. Although they really did have the attention span of a child and just wanted to dive up and down on the water rather than do lengths.. Because that only took a few hours, when I got back I cut 4 lengths of pole and screwed into them a handle each to slide across the shower doors which currently had paint brushes instead.. After a few tweaks.. They worked pretty well..! Now I don't have to balance a paint brush in the door to keep it shut whilst I have a shower!
