Kya Travels
"Go, lie down: and it shall be [...] So Samuel lay down in his place." -Today's bible except... Fits because we're all either sick (Darren), just got over being sick (Lyle), or just getting sick (Kya), and we were all lazing around. Today we woke up and went to get breakfast again. The dining room was full though, so we had to wait a while! So we went to sit outside in the sun for a while, and about half an hour later they had a table free! Could've just kept sleeping! I had the same as yesterday, porridge and a cooked breaky, but Darren was feeling pretty off today, so he just had porridge and a bowl of fruit. After breakfast we went back to the room and packed our bags, then checked out and crossed the road to wait at the bus stop. We jumped on the first bus back in to the city (which for some reason cost us twice as much as last time...), and walked up to the hostel. When we got there it was still a little early to check in, and they told us we'd have to wait about an hour, so we just sat down there in the restaurant the hostels attached to, Kennedys, and had a cold drink while we waited. About an hour and a half later, we saw someone come in and check in, so we went up to see what the deal was, and the girl said she didn't know we were waiting to check in! Annoying! So she checked us in next, and we went up, and Darren went to have a shower and a sleep, and I dropped off my bags and went for a wander around the city. I went to go check out Shambles, which is a little street that sounded pretty cool in the guidebook. When I found it though, it wasn't as cool as I was expecting... It's known because the houses kind of overhang the streets and its supposed to feel like they're hanging over your head, but really there were only a few buildings that did it, and they didn't overhang by much. It was also ruined by the scaffolding that was up halfway down the street... Damn scaffolding! Although I did pass a building that looked like it would fall down at any minute... As I started to make my way back, I passed a stall that was selling "real" lemonade, so I decided I'd try one of those. It was so delicious! It was pretty much just ice, sugar, lemon juice and water, so it wasn't fizzy at all, which was awesome. It was just really refreshing too, as it was so hot that day! As I continued heading back, I came across the entrance to the wall walk, where you can walk the walls that used to surround the city, so I decided I'd go up and check that out. It was really beautiful. Nice views over some pretty fancy gardens and cafes, and as you walked around, there were a few spots with amazing views of the minster and other buildings in the city. It was beautifully sunny, and blissfully shady, and it was just really nice and relaxing. I'd read the walk takes two hours or so, but after about 20 minutes, it ended. Maybe it picks up somewhere else, I might have to look into that. But that was enough for today, because it was nearly 2pm, and the Wimbledon men's finals were on, so I headed back to the hostel, and got my favourite banana lounge chair, and settled in to watch Murray hopefully smash Djokovic. One of the housekeepers was there half watching, half working, and we were chatting to her, and she even ordered us some food from downstairs, so we could eat in the common room! That was awesome. Darren went back to bed after the first set, and told us to wake him at the fifth set. So then after Murray was up two sets to none, and up a break, I thought it would be a good time to wake him up. As soon as he got up though, Murray lost 3 or 4 games in a row, so Darren went back to bed, saying to wake him again in the fifth set. But then, Murray came back and was serving for the match, so I woke him one more time. And he almost had him, when Djokovic came back and got to deuce a few times, and I was almost gonna say 'woke you up for nothing again...' when Murray got him. Yay!! A British win while we're in Britain! Or really a Scottish victory! After the match we put some washing on, and I had a shower, then we just chilled out for a while, except Lyle who went to check out the pub and the band that was going to be playing there. Darren was still feeling pretty lousy, probably at the worst part of the cold or flu or whatever he has, so I went for a walk to try find him some flu tablets and powerade. I walked for ages and passed about 8 closed pharmacies and supermarkets until I gave up and headed back to Kennedys, to ask for directions. He pointed me in the right direction and I found a very small convenience shop, where I at least found some ibuprofen, lucozade and apples! I went back to the hostel and hung out with sickie for a while, then we went to find some dinner. We found a little Cornish pasty shop that was still open so we went in there and got some food, and walked back to the hostel to eat it. The band was playing downstairs, which was quite loud as it was right below our window. And it was too hot to shut the window, so we just listened to them for a while (their drunk 'backup singers' were horrible!), and went to sleep.
