Kya Travels
We had an early start this morning, as we had to get up and check out by 8am. We said thanks to Robert and headed out to the car, and started our journey over the border to York, England. The drive was long and boring. I took the time to update my blog. A couple of hours in, we stopped for fuel and snacks, then kept going. On the way, I may have accidentally led us on a bit of a detour... But it was ok, we got there in the end. Towards York, there were quite a bit of roadworks happening, which slowed our drive down a bit, but we eventually made it into the city and to the rental car returns. After we dropped off the car, we started our walk into the town centre to find the hostel. At the busiest part of the traffic, we saw some geese with little goslings trying to cross the road!! In the middle of the city! Poor things! The traffic seemed pretty courteous though, so hopefully they got to cross without getting flattened!! We walked up and through what I assume is the city centre. There were people EVERYWHERE, and the town had a really cool feel to it! We made our way up to the hostel, and pressed the buzzer to get in.... Then pressed it again.... After a bit, a man came past and asked if we were checking in, then led us into the restaurant next door. They had just been doing some renovations so the office was at the bar there. We checked in, then the man took us up to the rooms. Wow. Best hostel ever!! It was really funky, with a big room, modern facilities, a massive common area with free coffee, teas and juice, and it was just awesome! After we dropped off our stuff and said thanks to the owner, we could hear guitar playing somewhere, so went to check it out, and found a guy playing in the common room. His name was John, from Scotland, and him and Darren spent a bit of time exchanging the guitar and taking turns playing songs. So we hung out there for a while, had a drink and enjoyed some music. After a while I went for a walk to try find a camera repair shop. I found a place and showed them the problem, and got told I'd have to get the lens replaced and it would cost me £150!! Woah. No thanks! Maybe I can get it cheaper in another country or something.... (Wishful thinking!) Will have to make do with the little camera for a bit longer! I went back to the hostel, where the common room was much more full, and had a drink while watching the tennis, then we went to find somewhere to have dinner. Darren was feeling like he might be coming down with something, so we only went around the corner to a place called punch bowl. I had a pretty delicious baked omelette, which I'd never tried before. After dinner we went back to the hostel for a (very) early night. (Although I stayed awake for a while, internetting and blogging!)
