Today the plan was to go to Tokyo Big Sight and see the Dezome-Shiki (New Year's Fire review of the Tokyo fire department), which is organized every year. Here they show the power of the fire department in different sorts of ways like a parade and an exhibition hall. Unfortunately we all left too late to be there in time for the opening but went there anyway. When we arrived some people told us we could not go to the tribunes because there was no room. It was quite irritating because we saw empty seats in the distance almost everywhere. Apparently they did not calculate that people leave the tribune early to see the exhibition behind it. On a big screen in the hall you could follow the parade outside, but to be honest it was not exactly as expected. Everything was so far away we wondered if the people on the tribune could even see it clearly. What they did was impressive though. A real demonstration of a rescue operation from a big burning building with helicopters and everything. Inside the hall it was very fun to see all the different trucks from the fire department displayed there. They also had special wagons where you could experience an earthquake of level 7 and we must say it was kind of scary. When we continued our exploration of the hall we saw that a big part was informative (only Japanese) and of course a lot for kids like hanging on a cable while escorted by someone of the fire department and taking pictures when they sit on a motorcycle or dressed up like a fireman. Very funny to see. When we finished we walked back and we saw the Antique Jamboree we intended to visit tomorrow. The entrance fee was higher because this was the early-visit-day. We had the whole afternoon to spare so we still went to explore, the train fee to get there tomorrow was almost the price difference so it did not really matter and we were there now. It was amazing to see all the antique stuff and the very high prices. It was also clearly the day that Antique shops explored this Jamboree as well, as much cash was spend! Michelle found a small glass ball with metal decoration, a metal incense-burner with a Kirin on top and a small lock in the shape of a Kirin as well. Joost even found a small porceline statue of a cat and a nice present for his dad. No more information, it would ruin the surprise! There were many different stalls but of course we liked the traditional Japanese stuff like boeddha's and yokai statues and ceramic more than the Western stuff like toys and plastic figures or glass. The problem with these kind of markets is that you always see something new! Although most was too expensive anyway. After we finished we walked to a mall called "Venus Fort", which features an indoor mall that looks like an Italian city. And on our way took done pictures of some nice views. When we arrived at the mall we first encountered a Hello Kitty store, it was definitely an overkill of pink in this store and the game center next to it... The mall was still nicely decorated with lights and we soon found the part of the mall which had a Victorian Venice like style and even a sky to match it all. The sky apparently could be adjusted to day or nighttime, we had the last one and it was a very nice atmosphere. We ate at an Italian restaurant and after we explored the rest of the mall we went home. It was a long day!

René When I first read the title, I thought it was about firemen setting fire to antiques!
