Because we were still missing a good cutting knife for meat and vegetables and a good bread knife Michelle decided to go to a good knifes shop. When you surf the internet and you look for "knife" and "Tokyo" most sites direct you to one general place; Kappabashi Market. It is a street named after a Kappa (mythical creature) statue halfway in this street. This street is the street to buy all the things you need when you own a nice restaurant or if you are a chef and need stuff to cook. So what is a better place to buy a good knife?
When arriving I already noticed the street was not a typical Japanese shopping street or maybe the giant head of a chef on top of a building gave that away. There were more strange buildings like a small flat with cup and saucers as a balcony. All this must have connected with the kind of stuff the store were selling. When I entered the street there were a few very nice shops. Like stores with all kinds of different pottery and shops that sell cups you need for rice or miso soup or a bottle for sake. I even found a few that sold restaurant uniforms. Everything you can imagine for a restaurant is there for sale, even the plastic models you see at many restaurants in Japan. That was a very fun store to visit and I could not resist to buy a few magnets of a rice cake, melon bread and mochi balls on a stick! Everyone who visited was quite impressed to see al this realistic looking fake food. Very funny to hear Japanese say oishii (looks tasty) every time they entered the store. Further in the street they were selling all kinds of things made from bamboo, like baskets and chopsticks. I must say that this street gives you a good look into the restaurant-culture of Japan. The most impressive stores in the street were the stores selling knives. except the sword of Dennis I have never seen knives that big! I wondered who uses such big knifes except butchers maybe. I settled with a good bread and meat knife. I knew the meat knife was extremely sharp so I bought a knife cover for it a few stores further. Unfortunately I could not find the Kappa statue although I walked both sides trough the streets. I also discovered when I try to buy cups for miso soup, they only sold them per five cups and I only wanted two. Guess they were wholesale stores. At home I discovered not only the meat knife was extremely sharp. While washing the bread knife I accidentily sliced a piece of the label of the drying cloth with no effort at all! It sliced the bread perfectly, no more thick slices for us! It was a day well spent and I had a lot of fun!
In the evening we took some ramen, but we totally forgot to check if it would be spicy. Guess what happened :( After that we went to Shibuya to get an alarm-clock and check out the clothes store to find some extra pants for Dennis. We found a nice alarm clock (which works on radiography) and we found some clothes for both of us at Uniqlo, pants for Dennis and some shirts for Michelle. And as a bonus we think we found our first cat-café near this store, we sure want to visit some other time.

René So do you have everything right now for your house? Or do you still need a lot of shopping?
