Because of all the luggage we had, the train was not an option, so we had to take a taxi to the apartment. Together with Minami of Ken Corporation we checked the apartment for damages and got a tour of all the facilities. Japanese apartments sure have more technology in house than Dutch ones! The bath tub water is controlled by a panel on the wall, with which you can even fill it up automatically to a certain level and temperature. Each room has an airconditioner with a remote control and the toilet can spray your bottom, if you like, and flushes automatically when standing up from the seat. The air flow in the bathroom is also fully customisable, we found it a bit too much. With all the panels and all the options, it is quite hard to remember what was what again. The floor heating is a bit strange as well. Controllable by a panel again, you can set timers, strength and duration of the heating, but strangely enough, no setting for the temperature.
When we were ready with the apartment, the rented furniture arrived. With so many people delivering it, they were ready quite soon and all of it to our liking, except for the beds. Those are a bit too hard, but we will soon buy new ones. When they were ready though, we noticed that we had the basic stuff for living in an apartment except... ceiling lights. It becomes dark quite early in Japan, so we had to do with just a few lights in the kitchen, hallway and bathroom. Good enough for the first few days, but we asked if they could provide those as well.
In the afternoon we went to the City Hall of Meguro to apply for an Alien Registration Card. Getting there took some time, since we did not take the direct route (no, we were not lost) and a friendly Japanese lady, who spoke English perfectly due to an expat period in Australia, showed us the way. Because of her two little children and a buggy, we took a slow touristic route. The delivery time for the cards is three weeks, but in the mean time we have a document that says we have applied for one. We then went to Tokyu Handsu to get the basic necessities like mugs, glasses and towels, but Tokyu Hansu is not the best store for that. Problem was that we didn't know what other store to go to, so we ended up with just the bare necessities.
Our dinner was gyudon, which is a simple meal but actually quite nice. At home we noticed that the TV and internet was working, although we didn't have a settop box yet, so our only living room light was kinda flickering a lot ;)

René Sounds like you can create a onzen like atmosphere in your bathroom. Nice bath, gentle mountain breeze...
