Weekend #9 here in Germany was eventful as usual.
Friday I was a rebel and decided to skip class to take a suitcase full of stuff to Tuebingen. I haven't missed a day of class yet, so I thought that I deserved a day to sleep in a little and lighten my load for my move to Tuebingen this weekend. I bought some bedding and put some posters and pictures up on my wall. Also, I got to meet my neighbor. Her name is Paula, she's from Brazil and can't speak German or English very well. Obviously I don't know Portugese so I doubt our friendship is going to go far. But, after a relaxing day of settling in my room I met up with some others from our group for a train ride back to Horb.
Once we got to Horb, Elisabeth and I caught the first Bus back to Ahldorf. During our ride we were talking too much, because before we knew it we passed our stop since we forgot to press the button. So the next stop ended up being in the middle of nowhere, literally. Plus I had my huge empty suitcase with me. We looked at the schedule for Buses back and the next one didn't come for an hour. So, I had to resort to calling my host dad for a ride. He arrived ten minutes later, laughing hysterically at us. We probably looked like two lost little girls standing on the side of the road. Oh well though, we just got a short little tour of the boonies of Ahldorf. Not to mention that Ahldorf is already in the boonies.
Friday was also Annie's birthday, and a rock cover band just happened to be playing in Nordstetten. My host dad was nice enough to drive us there to. The band ended up coveringa bunch of older American rock and newer pop songs. Since we knew all the songs we had a great time dancing and belting out all the words.
Later in the night I met some German guys up at the bar. Here in Germany when you get a beer they serve it in a nice glass cup, but you have to pay a 2 euro Pfand (deposit) then it would cost 1.80 Euro for the beer. So every time this guy would buy me a drink I'd take the cup back and get 2 Euro. Needless to say… I made some money. haha
On Saturday I found myself for the third weekend in a row on a train headed for Stuttgart. We had heard about an event going on called Long Night of Museums. We decided it would be a better idea this weekend to get a Hostel, instead of just staying up all night. Well on the train there Cassie asks Joe: "What's the name of our hostel?" Joe responds with: "I thought you knew." So we spend our first few hours in the city trying to find an internet café to fin the name of hostel. We were eventually successful though.
Later in the night we paid 14 Euro and got transportation and entrance into any museums we wanted that were participating. First, we checked out a History museum that ended up being really cool. Then we split into two groups and I ended up in the group that attempted to go see a fire spinning show, but we ended up going on a boat river tour. It was nice, but I'd like to go back in the day when I can actually see what's on the shore. However, after the boat tour we went to the Planetarium and got to see a really cool night sky/laser light show. That right there was worth the 14 Euro. By the time we left the planetarium it was already 1am so Rita and I decided to go and check out the Mercedes Benz Museum. We didn't get there until 1:30am, so by that time they weren't letting anyone into the museum anymore. Only out and into the massive party they were having.
Rita and I weren't up to partying since we had an interesting Friday night. So, we decided to head back to the hostel. We had thought that the subway ran all night long, so that was our means of transportation back to the hostel. Key word though: Thought. Of course it didn't run, and it took us a while to figure out that there were night buses. We found the bus that went towards our hostel and finally got on it around 3:30am. Once we were on it though, we didn't know exactly where we were supposed to get off. Luckily though, our Mexican friends Rita and Karla were speaking Spanish to each other and a random guy on the bus that could also speak Spanish realized we were having trouble. He kindly let us know the stop we needed to get off at. Thank the lord.
Sunday I finally made it home at 1pm after using countless modes of public transportation over the weekend. I can't wait to be in Tuebingen, where I don't have to worry so much about how I'm going to get to my house. Which reminds me, I only have four more days left here in Horb!
How crazy is that? I can't believe it's already March 23rd. Time has flown by! Before I know it, I'll be on a plane coming home….
I love it here though. My German has gotten SO much better, but not as much as I was hoping by this point. My teacher situation here at Herman-Hesse has been disappointing, but I know I'll have a ton of time in Tuebingen to sit by the Neckar and study.
Here is my new address in Tübingen:
Kimmy Schroeder
Hafengasse 6
Prinz Karl Wohnheim, Zimmer 1

Germany
Anyways, I should get going. Lots of trip planning, packing, and a presentation to prepare!!!
P.S.
Aunt Judi: No worries… I'll keep Keri attached to my hip, and I def. do have time to be missing all of you!
