Friday night we went outto dinner in Horb, which was the first sit-down dinner I've been to since I have been here. However, now I understand why people in Horb DON'T go out to dinner. We went to the only Mexican Reastraunt in the city and it was not that great. First of all, you know it's not going to be good when I asked for no onions and she comes back to tell me that it's all pre-mixed. Yum.
After dinner we headed over to Belli Arti for yet another night of drinks… and a very stubborn Techno DJ. Don't get me wrong, I like Techno sometimes but not the entire night when I really want to dance. I just can't seem to dance all that great to music with no words.
Saturday morning we had a nice little change in our usual excursions. We only had to ride ONE trade for an hour. We arrived in Stuttgart way earlier than we were used to starting our day, and got a short little tour of a bunch of mineral water fountains in the Bad Constantt area of the city.
We then headed over to the Wilhelma Zoo. I think I actually reverted back to a 6 year old. I swear I had a huge smile on my face the entire time. It's really weird here because everything is so much closer to you. I literally could have stolen a penguin if I'd really wanted to (and had a large enough backpack). We seen tons of animals, from Monkeys to Electric Eels. I enjoyed myself.
Especially when I walked out of the Ape house, and a little boy (probably 2 years old) walked up to me and grabbed my hand. He then walked me up the hill, pointed and said "Das Elefant!" Cutest thing ever, but made me really want to see Blake. I miss him and Jadyn.
Later after we finally left the Zoo, we headed to the main shopping part of the city. I didn't realize how big Stuttgart was until we got to this part. The thing I like about Europe is they don't really have indoor malls. They have large streets with store after store, and it's such a better atmosphere. You have people putting on shows, selling ice cream and other various things in the middle of the walk way. Much more pleasant than walking through a mall at home and having a guy try to sell me a cell phone or massage my hand every five steps.
We came home from Stuttgart and I had a nice night hanging out with my friend Karla from Mexico. We had some good conversations and I got to know her better. Too bad though that she's leaving next Monday to move three hours away for an Internship she got.
This morning I finally got to sleep in! I also got a text from Karla asking if I wanted to go into Horb to get come cake and go to a flea market. So, we caught a bus down to Horb and come to find out neither of those things were in Horb. One was in a city called Glatt, and the other in a city called Glatten. Really? Who would name two cities like that?
So, we ended up calling a taxi to take us to Glatt. There we went to a café in a castle and I got the biggest piece of cake I've ever eaten in my life and an amazing cup of Milk Coffee. It was the most adorable and romantic little place I've ever been to. I really want to go back again before we leave. Although I could spare the calories, the cake was just too good to not have again!
We decided it was time to leave, so we called the Taxi and the same guy came to pick us up. On the way back to Horb we ask him how much it would cost for him to take us to Glatten where the flea market and the rest of the Americans were. He proceeds to tell us that it's the same price, so we all get excited that we scored this easy taxi ride to where we wanted to go, until he drops us off in Horb… I mean it's understandable when one person has the wrong impression. But, all SEVEN of us misunderstood the situation.
Now we're back in Horb, just got back from Glatt, and the bus to Glatten left 10 minutes before we got there with the other Americans on it. We thought there would be another one in an hour, but there wasn't. So guess what we had to do? Call the SAME taxi driver to drive us back to Ahldorf because we didn't feel like sitting around Horb for 2 more hours until our next bus.
We probably should have just hired him for the whole day… would have been cheaper.
I came home and had a nice chat with my host mom over a cup of coffee. (Understand why I'm wired now?)
After dinner I went over to Elisabeth and Rita's house to watch a movie. We watched The Diary of Bridget Jones in German, quite hilarious. Oh, and I almost got attacked by their evil little bird. Rita tells me it doesn't bite, and then of course it won't let me get within 6 inches of it without it snapping it's beak at me. Little devil.
Overall, I had another good weekend. I have tons of pictures to upload again. I swear by the time I come home I'm going to have at least 5,000 new pictures.
Hope you enjoy all my random pictures from the Zoo, because I honestly don't know what else I'm going to do with a billion pictures of penguins…
Tschuess!
