Had a big day walking...first to the 1896 Olympic Arena, then through the National Garden which also contains the Exhibition Building. After that we visited several historic sites and saw lots of ruins. Refreshed from our jet lag, we started the day with breakfast downstairs in the hotel. The visibility taking off from Dubai was terrible. Not sure whether it's smog or dust but the air quality looks very poor. For the first couple of hours we flew over the most godforsaken country I have ever seen. It was extremely flat, sandy looking wasteland and yet there appeared to be a lot of roads...(in hindsight I believe it was Iraq). Gradually the country improved and became a bit more Australia-like... hillier and with some massive water storages....
