The visibility taking off from Dubai was terrible. Not sure whether it's smog or dust but the air quality looks very poor. For the first couple of hours we flew over the most godforsaken country I have ever seen. It was extremely flat, sandy looking wasteland and yet there appeared to be a lot of roads...(in hindsight I believe it was Iraq).
Gradually the country improved and became a bit more Australia-like... hillier and with some massive water storages. (In hindsight I believe that was Turkey). Unfortunately the on-board map hasn't been working on this flight so I have not much idea where we are. As if to compensate though, the meal was much better than on the first leg...
It was a beautiful sunny day to arrive at Athens. We were met at the airport by Giannis, a prearranged taxi driver who drove us to our hotel. The airport is about 40km out of town! We were really tired from the trip so after a quick walk around the local area and an alfresco meal we were ready for a good night's sleep before a fresh start tomorrow. Giannis was very friendly and we ended up calling on him a couple more times to be our personal shuttle service while we were coming and going in Athens.

Pam How is your first day in Athens going Ken? I am thinking of you. Today was another wet day here, but it is supposed to fine up tomorrow. Enjoy yourselves. Love, Pam
