Refreshed from our jet lag, we started the day with breakfast downstairs in the hotel. We were served cappuccinos by the waiter who then specially squeezed orange juice for us and we helped ourselves to a selection of treats from the buffet.
Straight after breakfast we headed off on foot to see the Acropolis which is just up on the hill behind our hotel. Almost everything that matters is in walking distance from our hotel which is great. We continued the walk in a circuit and had lunch at a sidewalk cafe near Monastiraki Square. There are shops and cafes everywhere with all the shopkeepers keen for your business.
We walked up Ermou street to Syntagma Square and the Parliament Building where we saw the changing of the guard and then caught a city sights bus for a tour. We left bus and visited the Acropolis Museum which is a large new building which houses hundreds of statues and other objects which have been removed from the Acropolis. Under the building is actually an archaeological site too and it will eventually be open for visitors.
Afterwards we had a closer look a Hadrians Arch and the Temple of Zeus before returning to the hotel and getting ready for dinner. We ate at a really nice restaurant called Scholarcio where we were served a selection of greek dishes. It started raining lightly while we were there and we had to make our way back to the hotel in the rain. Magically, a fellow selling umbrellas appeared so we bought one and had some protection for the rest of the way.
