I had no idea what to expect at Delphi so I was a bit surprised how much there was to see. It's very high up on a steep mountainside and was a sacred place in Ancient Greece. It is mostly famous for The Oracle of Delphi who people would question about the future. However it was also the location for several Treasuries, a theatre and a Stadium which was perched well up the mountain and which we climbed up a modern path to see. Our Greek guide Penny was very passionate about the history of this place. As usual, there was also a museum to house the many statues and artefacts which had been unearthed.
For lunch,we descended the mountain to the small town of Itea on the Gulf of Corinth where we ate by the sea at a small cafe called Scala.
Then we drove on to Thermopylae which was a famous battlefield between the Spartans and the Persians. We continued on across the plains of Thessaly through miles of farmland to reach Kalambaka which is located at the foot of some magnificent rock formations called Meteora.
