We left beautiful Karumba this morning headed for Gregory Downs, Lawn Hill NP. After some rough roadwork sections the van felt strange, I pulled over and had a quick look and found the right wheel at an unusual angle. First thought was that the wheel bearings had failed, but I had done them before we left. I jacked the van up, removed the wheel and found a large crack through the suspension A-arm at the stub axle! Not good! We were in the middle of nowhere so we nursed it another 120km to the Burke and Wills Roadhouse hoping to fix it there myself but unfortunately no welder to be found. We had upgraded our RACQ membership to Ultimate before we left so we called them and a truck came from Mt Isa and loaded our home away from home up on the flat-bed and trucked it to Mt Isa! So here we are in the Mt Isa Overlander Hotel, nowhere near the beautiful Lawn Hill NP that we were so looking forward to visiting! An old fella in Cairns told me that when things go wrong the 'Adventure' begins.
