BEST experience ever.... We had to meet on the pier at 1530 where we got on the boat to start our Maya Bay camping trip! We were told it was just a small group, sixteen of us but we thought this was a better way to get to know people! At 1600 we set off from Phi Phi after stocking up on crisps and Chang, the weather was a little bit dodgy at first and I had a small tantrum but the rain did keep away for the majority of the journey over, our first stop was Viking cave. This is a cave that goes right back underneath Phi Phi Ley, it is guarded by local Thai people as within it are a certain type of birds nest which form a delicacy, these are bought by other countries and are worth millions! Our guide told us if anyone trespassed into Viking cave then they would be shot... So my advice would be to stay away!! After seeing Viking cave we then stopped off at a beautiful snorkelling spot! Everyone was snorkelling here, but me and Lucy sailed around in the boat in a kayak as we didn't want to get our hair wet yet! Typical girls! People were egging us on to go in and calling us 'boring' but no we said we would on the way back! We spent about an hour here and then the next stop was Maya Bay it was so exciting! We had our fingers crossed that we would bump into Leonardo DiCaprio - this is where he filmed 'The Beach.' We arrived at around 6pm after nearly tipping a long tail boat with everyone's weight, I couldn't stop being dramatic and kept screaming as didn't want all my belongings to fall in as much as it amused other people! The arrival time was perfect, just before the sun was ready to set :) now we had free time to explore the island, we had a wander and got some amazing photos of the beach and had ourselves a little photoshoot! One of the guides on the tour was a local Thai guy who lived on Phi Phi, his name was Coco and he was hilarious!! Had me and Lucy in stitches most of the night and took a shine to us! He made sure we were always having fun and shared stories of him setting the beach on fire a 'little' bit while doing his flame throwing! Luckily he didn't set nothing alight this time around!! After the sun had set we all ate curry that they made for us, we had an area set out with mats and speakers for music, was funny watching people keep changing the iPods over as certain people had a very different taste in music! (I'm talking jurrasic park theme tune!!) After dinner the drinking games started and everyone had buckets... We were drinking our favourite Sang Som with sprite, a Thai whiskey which we actually really like! The atmosphere was brilliant playing ring of fire, me being the host and writing the rules up! We got to know everyone pretty quick as majority were friendly, we met some lovely guys from Manchester and a fab couple from London. We were all the party starters and last ones standing!! After a few rounds of ring of fire we all went swimming in the sea to see the famous plankton, soooo amazing to see in the moonlight and was worth getting soaking for! After a midnight swim we all went back to the beach for more buckets, we discovered the bar man had fell asleep! Yes, we definitely took advantage of this our buckets tasted so much stronger now and kept topping up with the bottles we stashed haha! Then we all sat around singing songs listening to Coco playing on his guitar! Before long we were all passed out on the beach in our sleeping bags and getting attacked by Mosquitos - something we discovered the next morning! Waking up seeing the sunrise was a truly amazing feeling I can't describe how different and fantastic this whole experience was!! Everyone was up at around 7am, they made us breakfast Lucy tried some scrambled egg in a cup but I passed as didn't look too appetising. Instead I finished my tube of pringles! After group photos on the beach we headed back - so far on the long tail boat and then swapped to a bigger boat. Snorkelling time again and this time we both promised to give it a go! Lucy loves it but I was in and out after a few minutes I felt like I couldn't breathe with them silly masks on!! Was gutted after though as Coco swam with everyone to show them turtles! Well jel! The trip back I kept worrying how the hell I was going to manage my case as the wheel had broken on the way there, Coco even tried to fix it but the screw was too big! Never mind someone strong lifted it off for me and luckily in Phi Phi the roads/paths are quite even... Said bye to everyone and went straight for food both wanted pizza but wasn't ideal and 1030am! We waited around until our ferry for Koh Lanta, both wanted a few relaxing days to recover! Maya Bay is the most amazing experience and lucky for us we were in a fab group of people to share it with :)
