WOW where do I start with our two fantastic weeks stay in Koh Samui?! Well it didn't get off to a great start if I'm honest as the hotel we wanted to stay in was fully booked for that one night so we had to find a different one. When we arrived after the boat journey we went straight for food in the Islander and sat on wifi trying to book something! Eventually we thought we had found one so set off walking... This has to be one of the most single embarrassing moments of my life! Me pulling 25kgs in 30 degrees heat on a busy road, bumping into everyone possible who we would rather not have seen looking like this, yet we still said no to the fat man who offered us a lift on his ped! To cut a long story short we arrived at the hotel or brothel as we like to describe it to be told there was no rooms, secretly I was pleased! We asked in our original choice of hotel if they could help and he phoned a one around the corner for us to stay that night! Hallelujah! I felt like a horrible mess by this point and a tad hungover from our last night at Sandy Bay... The next day we checked into Z hotel where would be our home for the next couple of weeks! Felt so good knowing I did not have to pack and lump around my joke of a case for a while.
The next few, well basically the majority of our days/nights were spent sunbathing, checking out Chawneg, eating, topping up the tan abit more and not forgetting the partying with friends we made! Arc Bar, Henry Africa and Green Mango were a few of our favs! Even though Henry Arica was one of them seedy bars it wasn't too in your face and plenty of tourists still went in probably for the cheap buckets, you needed a few of these to knock some shapes out in Green Mango as it could get really busy! Drunk people do not care if they are dancing on you and spilling there drink in the process!! We had quite a few good nights out full of giggles :)!
For a change of scenery one day we decided to book a tour called Mr Ungs Genuine Safari - this is a MUST do if visiting Samui! The whole day was amazing it included elephenat trekking, monkey show, opportunity to hold one, see baby tigers and lions and get a photograph, swim in waterfalls and we also went around on a jeep safari which was sooooo much fun especially sitting on the top! You visit a few temples too and my tour guide kindly gave me his t-shirt without asking for it as maybe I was dressed inappropriately to see the mummified and big Buddha! This was by far one of my best memories so far!! Fantastic day and the tour guides thrive on making it the best, most enjoyable experience throughout! 5 star!!
However, a not so good experience was after maybe our first week I caught a bug and felt like crap, kept burning up but felt freezing at the same time. I started to feel sorry for myself and miss home comforts, such as dipping toast in my cuppa tea (uhhhh I know but don't say anything until you have tried it!) Luckily we found a perfect restaurant, Walkabout which served lush traditional English food! I got my cuppa and toast :) also not thinking straight I wished for rain when I felt poorly and this is exactly what we got on/off for a couple of days! Being bored out of our brains we still ended up walking along the beach dressed in trousers for the first time in weeks! We wanted to hire a kayak so bad but the weather meant we had to be patient and wait! If only we knew about the cinema that day it would have been a perfect choice! We then decided to stay in one night so I could get better/weather improve and made our favourite sandwiches - cheese and mayonnaise with crisps, sweets and watched Inbetweeners on YouTube! This was so cute and definitely cured my home sickness!! Finally I felt better and the sun was shinning again by the next morning... Yes, we went straight to the beach to play Shipwrecked with a kayak! Was hilarious and hard work at the same time I think I drew the short straw of being at the back but Lucy disagreed and said being at the front was more hard work lol! We headed straight towards (well a little bit off course) to what looked like a little deserted island. The only thing we could see on it were goats which was random but then more people decided to copy us and ended up in the same place! This was another great day on Chaweng beach!!
In Koh Phangan we planned to go to Koh Tao but didn't so we both wanted to see this island! We arranged and booked a tour to go here and Koh Nangyuan for the next day. I won't say too much as that is going to be a separate blog!
We did ALOT of walking in Samui so meant we passed all the shops everyday twice a day! Shopping in Chaweng would have been great if I didn't pack my life to come away with! Dispise my heavy case when I see all the things I could have bought. I did buy some new sandals as broke mine however these snapped just the same after I tripped over myself AGAIN! I swear I can't walk in flat shoes I'm really starting to miss my heels... We also got some bargain bikinis can't wait to pose in these once we arrive on Patong beach :) couldn't resist a few t-shirts aswell they look so cool over a bikini after we customise them! Maybe at the end of our Thailand adventure I will purchase a few things and send them home to await my return from Oz!? On a different note we feel like all we do is eat! Good job the food isn't an issue in Chaweng as there are so many beautiful restaurants to choose from, the best being on the beach front!! I think we ate in different ones nearly every day and night, one in particular - Chaba had us back three times as there food was so nice! I tried my first bit of 'street' food last night too, not gonna lie I only did it after reading an article on mail online about Eva Mendes being in Bangkok and seen eating it! If it's good enough for her then it's certainly good enough for me! Although all I got was chocolate pancakes mmmmm!! One of my new favs since being in Thailand is Pad Thai noodles and they are so cheap, bonus! Our last big night out was Wednesday, Arc Bars beach party however it wasn't that busy and we ended up in a makeshift bar on the beach drinking cocktails for 99THB! The owner Poh took a shine to Lucy or should I say Lipsy and so we left and wandered up to the other bars...
As much as we love Koh Samui we didn't really like the fact that there weren't many English tourists. Maybe they only tend to stay around the dates of the full moon or stay for a few nights before moving on! Who knows?? We also dislike the fact that EVERYONE thinks we are Russian or Swedish I suppose it can be funny sometimes or used as an advantage when I want to be purposely ignorant but for now we are looking forward to being on a different island! Heading to Phuket by bus as I write this :)
