Kate's Chronicles
Well I've scored another 5 day weekend courtesy of the students having exams.....only thing is they forgot to tell me until I turned up for my 0730 class yesterday!!! Oh well back to my apartment wishing I had known before I got up, showered and ready to go.
Anyway the bonus days have been good despite the rain..... yes we are getting rain in winter and its even a bit cold. I'm not sure of the temperatures but I think we may have got down to single figures overnight.
Braved the cold on Saturday night and headed off to the Firefly Coffeehouse with some students. I think I am their moral support as they are so scared of using their oral English out and about by themselves. Have added a few photos from the night - gave my camera to the students and ended up with heaps of photos they wanted!!! So I've been busy emailing them.....aren't I a good-hearted teacher!!
I've only got just over a month before my contract expires so I have spent the last 2 days working out what to ship home and what I still need. The airline restrictions within China are ridiculous - only 20 kgs - and then they slug you heaps for anything over.....how is a girl meant to travel??? I have booked myself a tour before heading back to Aus so can only carry 20 kgs till I get to Hong Kong and good old Qantas with my 33 kg limit.
I expect to be back in Tas. about 8 February so be ready for a catch-up drink or 2. I am hanging out for a decent glass of sauvignon blanc........Chinese don't go for wines so I haven;t had any since I arrived in mainland China.
School is obviously back into routine after the eventful celebrations of last week. Poor students were given the weekend off as a treat but had to come back to two and a half days of exams!!! Something not right there!!
Talk soon. xxxx

Ray H Hi Katie great to hear from you. Gee the time has flown, but I suppose you will look forward (to a certain extent anyway) to get back to English TV and English conversations. If you have things to bring home, have you tried parceling up items and posting home? Funny thing in China though I found is that the post office employees go through everything you want to send and even though items are quite OK, these people will tell you what you can and cannot send. Absolutely ridiculous and I had a couple of heated discussions re same. The other option is to send by freight through DHL or similar. I got some things sent that way and arrived completely in tact and safe. Will definately catch up for a wine or three when you return. Please keep in touch.
Wayne Wow where did that time go.........I finish Fri i better get on with the house again finally time to get some of my own stuff done although I will be teaching again by Feb hopefully well get some summer for your return sounds like you have done well keeping your baggage down .......after months of shoppingTake care Lepidoptera
Pearl Hi Kate. Time does fly. Ta for letting a sistertraveller live vicariously. I'm in to my MA Tesol course next yr. Online full/time and out of here.As I speak 4 days to go!!It will be good to catch up on your return. A student from Afghanistan offered me full board with her mum in Kabul if I go there to teach in 2012. I start study in March so will have some time for slow living minus the numbiing routine of full time servitude.Time to dream the future when I'm out of time for a while. I've loved your blog!! Pearl
Di Hi there Katielou. Busy back here with work winding up on Fri, although you wouldn't understand with all the 5 day weekends! I note your pics have you in warmer clothes, temps must be dropping. I got a late transfer to Lauderdale for 2011, very happy to be moving! Stay healthy.
