Kate's Chronicles
Nice early morning start again – it must be all this fresh air!! I even started this morning with a Tai Chi class and then about 0730 we sailed through the towering cliffs of Wu Gorge (aka Witches Gorge) and could admire the unusual rock formations, long canyons and deep crevices. The changing colours only add another dimension to an already magnificent view ….. all this and I hadn't even had breakfast yet!!
After breakfast we boarded a ferry boat to sail along the Daning River, a tributary of the Yangtze, to the Lesser Gorges. The first – Dragon Gate Gorge – had cliffs soaring so high and with the river only 10-30 metres wide the sheer magnitude cannot possibly be adequately described. It is said that special plants and fungi of longevity (lingzhi) grow high up on these cliff faces. The second gorge – Misty Gorge – is where we all kept our eyes wide open to see the 2000 y.o. "hanging" coffin suspended high up on the cliff face. Finally spotted it but I’m not sure my camera captured it. The third gorge- Emerald Green Gorge- contained bamboo groves and lots of greenery。 We then transferred to motorized sampans to view the mini gorges of the Madu River。It was absolutely freezing on the sampans but we were entertained by passengers dressing up in some bizarre hat and cape topped off by our guide serenading us with renditions of Chinese love songs。。。。me morable to say the least!!!
Back to the ship for lunch and then we set sail through the last of the 3 Gorges – Qutang Gorge- might be the smallest (only 8 KMS)but I think the prettiest and most majestic。Spent the afternoon with my fellow Aussies (who actually live in Hong Kong) partaking of a few drinks as we watched the scenery from our balcony and the sun setting over the river – looking like Mars – or maybe that had something to do with the alcohol intake!!
After dinner we were treated to a cabaret show presented by the staff and crew including singing, dancing, magician and the famous fabulous face changing masks。
