New Year's eve
For New Year's in Ecuador they build elaborate papier-mâché structures to be burnt, or you can buy a basic human figure built out of paper and cardboard on almost any street corner on the days leading up to New Year's, along with lots of different kinds of fireworks and explosives! The tradition is you buy a figure of a person you want to wish good luck to you and then set it on fire???
So I bought a child size one and burnt my niece Blair, happy new year sweetie!!! It's a pretty weird and crazy tradition if you ask me!
So after Cristina and I walked around the old city in Cuenca looking at the displays we went to her moms house where we set the bodies on fire and enjoyed playing with the fireworks and explosives! One of them found its way to me and burned a hole in my nice jacket!!! Lol. Some of them are really quite unpredictable on which way they're going to go and can be quite dangerous and a few people almost got them in the face!
