Leaving Franz Josef for Lake Wanaka but first we stopped off at Lake Mathason which is also named the Mirror lake. It was so calm and the reflection with Mount Cook was amazing! Got some pretty sweet photos.
On the bus to Wanaka I had a revelation, I had decided to do a skydive with Pete and Adam! I don't know what came over me. I started to gloat to Ian that if I did this skydive then I would have jumped out of a plane higher than he had! Needless to say he signed up as well! Hahaha. I love peer pressure! When the moment finally came we got off the bus and went to the skydive centre where we kitted up! I was going to pay for the whole kit, which meant I got photos, and video proof as well otherwise noone was going to believe me!
So up we went, we got to 5000ft and I thought this is high enough surely but not we kept on going up, up, up, up further and further until we reached halfway 7500ft where we got strapped to our instructors. Then at 12500ft they opened the doors. A little early I thought especially becuase we weren't jumping until 15000ft. Needless to say I was bricking it all the way up on the plane! My goodness when they openeded the door I can't explain the feeling I was feeling!
When we reached our jump height i had to shuffle across to the door and lean out, something I was a little reluctant to do but I didn't really have a choice in the matter! So here I am 15000ft above Lake Wanaka and ther Southern Alps and I am hanging out of an aeroplane! What the hell was I thinking! The instructor tapped me once on the shoulder, that was time for me to smile at the camera! your joking I thought. I'm not smiling. I managed to muster up a half smail and a thumbs up and then then next minute I was tumbling through the air! I can't really remember the initial feeling of falling but the moment I got the tap on the shoulder to open up my armsI realised we were just kinda floating! It didn't feel like we were falling, it just felt like someone was blowing a whole load of air into my face! The only thing I remember was how beautiful it was and how cold my mouth was! I also remember, oh no my shoe is about to fall off!
After 60 seconds of free falling they opened the parachute! It was so nice and quiet, we were just kinda falling back to earth, well more of a controllable falling! The instructor even let me control the parachute but I didn't much like that so I gave him the controls! When we landed I was so happy!
What a feeling! That night we celebrated!
