Leaving Westport we follow the coast down South to a place called 'The Blow Hole' and 'Pancake Rocks. It was a beautiful part of the coast where erosion had slowly wittled away creating blow holes that the massive surf was flying out of and rocks that were shaped like stacks of pancakes! It doesn't sound enthrawling but I guess you had to be there to see it!
Next stop was a supermarket to buy fancy dress goods for the party at the 'Poo Pub' tonight! The theme that we decided on as a bus was, 'Anything but Clothes'. This basically meant that you had to come dressed as something but you weren't allowed to use clothes! We decided to go as the Kiwi Bus. I'll describe it later on!
Next on the agenda was the drive to Lake Mahinapua where we were to check into the hostel! The hostel was owned by the oldest publican in NZ a bloke name Liz! He is 85 and still kicking as strong as ever. apparently he had a 'disagreement' with a huge maori a couple of years back and he ended up flooring the fella! He truely was a character, looking alot like a a character, whose name escapes me, from Lord of the Rings. When we arrived I headed down to the beach to get a bit of surfing! It was ok but not great, a bit like centres but smaller and shorter (for the surfers amongst us). After that it was off to create our costumes but not before we had a couple of loosner jugs to get us in the creative mood.
Our outfit consisted of 5 individual boxes for myself, Ian, Ross, Alex and AdamWe each had a card board box covered in green paper with a letter and a wheel on both sides (depending on where you were standing). As we weren't allowed to wear any clothes this was all we had on and it was attached to us by string over the shoulders! It was hilarious, the pictures don't really do it justice! Other outfits from the party included a couple of girls covered by nothing but cling film and a couple of blokes in tin foil. There were a couple of other outfits but none that I can remember! it was a heavy night! ;)
